4 Claims.
This invention relates to a traveler device, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind adapted to be mounted for rotation above and independently of a bobbin spindle of a ring twister and which device provides an effective means to stretch the yarn while it is being twisted.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind including a fan which, when in operation, will broadcast a draft of air to provide an elfective medium to blow off from the adjacent portions of the twister all lint and other articles which would otherwise settle thereon and also to keep slugs from twisting in the yarn.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of our improved traveler device whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of our invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that our invention may be the better understood, we will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a fragmentary view partly in section and partly in elevation illustrating a traveler device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of our invention;
Figure 2 is a view in top plan of the fan carrying member;
Figure 3 is a view in elevation of the threading key.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, l denotes a plate for adjustable connection by the guide lid lappet of a twister frame and which plate is provided at its outer end with a bearing head 2 for the upper end portion of a tubular spindle 3. The mounting for the upper end of this spindle 3 is such as to permit the same to readily rotate with a minimum of frictional resistance.
This spindle 3 when in working position is directly above the spindle 4 upon which the bobbin 5 is mounted. As is well known, this spindle t together with the applied bobbin 5 passes axially through a traveler ring 5 carried by the ring rail 1 and which rail is caused to rise up and down at a predetermined speed with respect to the spindle 4 or more particularly the bobbin 5. The mechanism for effecting this movement of the ring rail 7 forms no part of the present invention.
Coacting with the ring 6, as is well known, is
. the traveler 8 through which is passed the yarn thread 9 which leads from the conventional degated bolt l2 which threads into the lower end 1| of the spindle 3 whereby the member H is efiectively clamped to the lower end portion of the spindle 3 for rotation therewith. An end portion of the member H is provided with a guide eye 12 through which the yarn thread 9 is freely directed. As is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, the yarn thread 9 as it leaves the delivery rolls is threaded from above down onto the spindle 3 and out through one of the side openings Ill through the eye l2 and from a there through the traveler ring to the bobbin. This threading of the yarn 9 assures an effective stretch to the yarn and there will be a different tensionor pull on the yarn when the thread is directed through the different open- 0 ings !0 in the spindle 3. I
The member H at the opposite ends thereof and at opposite. sides is provided with the fan blades B extending above and below the member l I. These blades 13 are of such size and form 35 to create an effective air blast as the member ll rotates under the action of the yarn to blow off from adjacent portions of the twister all lint and other particles which would otherwise settle thereon and also to keep slugs from twisting into 40 the yarn. These fan blades B also provide resistance to the member H in its rotation to further impose stretch upon the yarn.
In initially threading the yarn thread 9 a key A is preferably used.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a traveler device constructed in accordance with our invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that our invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason we do not wish to be understood as limiting ourselves to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out our invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
We claim:
1. In combination with a bobbin spindle and traveler of a ring twister, a tubular spindle, means for rotatably supporting said tubular spindle directly above the bobbin spindle, said second spindle being open at its top and having an opening in its side wall, an elongated member carried by the lower end portion of the second spindle and having a thread guide at an end portion thereof, the thread from the delivery rolls of the twister extending down from above through the second spindle out through the opening in the side wall of the second spindle and through the thread guide of the member to the traveler associated with the bobbin spindle, and a fan blade carried by each end portion of the member, the fan blade at one end portion being at one side of the member and the other fan blade being at the opposite side of the member.
2. In combination with a bobbin spindle and traveler of a ring twister, a tubular spindle, means for rotatably supporting said tubular spindle directly above the bobbin spindle, said second spindle being open at its top and having an opening in its side wall, an elongated member carried by the lower end portion of the second spindle and having a thread guide at an end portion thereof, the thread from the delivery rolls of the twister extending down from above through the second spindle out through the opening in the side Wall of the second spindle and through the thread guide of the member to the traveler associated with the bobbin spindle, and fan blades carried by the member.
3. In combination with the bobbin spindle and traveler of a ring twister, a tubular spindle open at its top, means for rotatably supporting said second spindle above the bobbin spindle, said second spindle in its side wall being provided with a series of longitudinally spaced openings, an elongated member carried by the lower end portion of the second spindle and having a thread guide adjacent to an end thereof, and fan blades carried by the member at spaced points lengthwise thereof.
4. A thread tension device for a ring twister comprising a tubular spindle, means for supporting said spindle above a bobbin spindle, the upper end of the first spindle being open, the side wall ofthe first spindle having an opening, a member carried by the lower portion of the first spindle and having a thread guide and fan blades carried by the extremities of the member, one blade extending along a side of the member and across the adjacent end of the member, the second fan blade extending along the opposite side of the member and across the adjacent end thereof.
