Application July 5, 1938, Serial No. 217,577
1 Claim.
This invention relates to bottle holders, and its general object is to provide a holder that is primarily designed for a milk bottle, to support and clamp the same in a manner whereby casual removal or displacement therefrom is practically impossible, yet the bottle can be manually applied and removed with minimum effort.
A further object is to provide a bottle holder that can be suspended from a nail or the like driven in anysuitable supporting means, and the holder includes means for receiving the base of the bottle as well as bottle neck gripping means, the latter being adjustable to fit necks of bottles of various sizes.
Another object is to provide a bottle holder that I is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and extremely eflicient in use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the severalparts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the bottle holder which forms the subject matter of the present invention, and illustrates the same in use.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 2-2 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 33 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 4-4 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that my holder comprises a reticulated lower portion in the form of a circular basket that includes an upper ring member I, a bottom 2 and side portions 3, the bottom and side portions being made of strands of wire bent to provide horizontal portions crossing each other and vertical portions rising from the ends of the horizontal portions, with the upper ends of the vertical portions terminating in eyes. looped about and secured to the ring member, as best shown in Figure 3. The basket has connected thereto an elongated hanger bracket that is made up of a single strand of wire shaped to provide vertical parallel portions 4 and bent substantially at right angles at the lower ends of the portions 4, and thence extends in rounded formation to provide the major portion of the ring member 2, consequently it will be seen that the hanger bracket and basket are integrally connected to provide a strong and sturdy construction. Bridging the rear ends of the rounded portion is an arcuate cross strand 5 that terminates in eyes looped about the rear ends, to provide the remaining portion of the ring member, as will be apparent upon inspection of Figure 3.
The bracket strand from the upper ends of the parallel vertical portions 4 extend into converging portions 6 that terminate at the upper ends in a looped portion 1 that provides an elongated eye to be received by a nail or other like means driven into any suitable supporting means, for suspending the holder therefrom, as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2.
The neck receiving and gripping means of my holder includes an arcuate strip 8 preferably of resilient metal bridging the parallel portions 4 and terminating in sleeves 9 fixed to the parallel portions at the upper ends thereof. Riveted or otherwise secured to the center of the strip 8 is the bight portion of a substantially U-shaped clamp ID that extends forwardly from the strip 8 to overlie the basket, as best shown in Figure 2, and it will be obvious that the clamp Ill is made from resilient metal so as to set up a gripping action with the neck of a bottle seated in the basket. The outer ends of the arms of the U- shaped clamp are beaded and outwardly flared, as best shown in Figure 4 to facilitate the applicat on of a bottle to the clamp, and due to the resiliency of the clamp, it is self-adjustable to fit bottle necks of various sizes.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that I have provided a bottle holder which can be suspended from any suitable supporting means by the use of a nail or the like, for supporting a bottle out of the reach of children, as well as animals, therefore a bottle of milk can be retained by my holder in a clean and sanitary condition and without fear of casual removal or displacement of the bottle therefrom.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is: 1 A bottle holder comprising a basket for receiving the bottom portion of a milk bottle and ineluding an upper ring member, strands of wire bent to provide the bottom and vertical portions of said basket and secured at their upper ends to said ring member, a hanger bracket formed from a single strand of wire shaped to provide vertically arranged spaced parallel portions and bent at the lower ends of the parallel portions at substantially right angles thereto for disposal in rounded formation to provide the major portion of said ring member, an arcuate strand of wire bridging and secured to the rear ends of said rounded portion for disposal in the same plane with the latter to complete said ring member, said single strand of wire being bent at the upper ends of the parallel portions to provide converging portions rising from the parallel portions, said single strand being further bent at the upper ends of the converging portions to provide an upright looped portion for receiving means for suspending the holder in position for use, an arcuate strip of metal formed to provide sleeves at its ends, said sleeves being secured to the parallel portions at the upper ends thereof for the disposal of said strip forwardly from the parallel portions, and a resilient substantially U-shaped clamp secured to said strip midway the ends thereof and overlying the basket to receive the neck of the bottle.
