Description

March 19, 1940. M. A. WOLF DISPLAY RACK FOR LADIES UNDERGARMENTS Filed Dec. 1, 1939 ATTORNEY.
' atented Mar.'19, 1940 r DISPLAY RACK FOR LADIES UNDER- GARMENTS Morris A Wolf, DallaspTe x.
Application December 1, 1939, Serial No. 307,172
2 Claims.
This invention relates to supports or display racks for ladies wearing apparel, particularly ladies panties. Y
Formerly in the display of feminine 'undergara ments as specified above, the panties were stacked one garment upon another, making it dii'licult for the clerk to get at the article quickly and conveniently. The object of the present invention is the provision of a display rack or'support which i m is very simple in construction, but which will permit a plurality of ladies undergarments of the type referred to, to be displayed on separate and, individual supporting elements.
A further object of the invention is the pro- 15 vision of a support of the class referred to wherein the elements supporting each individual garment may be swung from side to side on the rack' 30 drawing:
Figure 1 is .a perspective View of the rack or support embodying the invention; and
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail and partly sectional View of the support, and one of the supporting elements with a garment suspended therefrom. I
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the rack consists of a main supportor frame portion I which provides a loop which rests upon a table, counter or the like. The loop is made of .a single piece of material, preferably metal and the free end portions 2 are then bent upwardly or at right angles to the loop and provide posts for supporting a bar 3. The bar 3 is secured to each of the posts or end portions 2 by a screw bolt 4' and a plurality of holes or apertures '5 are formed in the bar 3 so that the individual garment supporting elements may be inserted therein. These elements are likewise formed of a single piece of stout metal and indicated generally at 5. One end of each of the gar-. ment supporting elements as shown in Figure 2 is bent at right angles to the body portion there-,
of and provides a short leg 1, which-leg is adapted to be inserted into any one of the holes 5, thus holding the element on a horizontal plane. The
central ormain body portion of the element is formed into a shallow loop by bending the'material as at 8. This arrangement and construction forms a nose-like projection 9 and around which the elastic band it of the under-garment H "is stretched, enabling the garment to be suspendel and held securely in display position. To facilitate the securing of the garment in position, the free end of the element as at i2 is then bent slightly outwardly and together with the angle formed at the point l3, the elastic/band is pre- 10 vented from slipping. In this manner the elastic band I!) embraces the loop of the element as disclosed in Figure 1.
Finally, the bar 3 is enlarged at the point l4 and provided with an aperture for the seating of a short post l5, carrying a price plate or tag [6. The loop in the frame portion 1 includes rubber pads or similar non-abrasive means l1.
While the structure shown is, simple in construction, the invention is susceptible to some modifications in keeping with the meaning of the improvement and such as would be within the scope and purview of the following claims.
What is claimed is:
1. For use in a garment display rack of the character described, a garment supporting memher adapted to swing about a vertical pivot and being shaped to support a downwardly suspended garment having an elastic waist band, said garment supporting member comprising a single rigid bar including a pintle and a body portion projecting substantially at right angles to the pintle, said body having a pair of oppositely facsupporting member including a pintle portion fitting into one of the apertures in said frame member and a body portion extending at right angles to the pintle and having a pair of upright oppositely facing S-shaped curves adapted to receive the elastic waist band of a garment to be supported,'the pintle being connected to one of the S-shaped curves, and the garment supporting member terminating at the other of said curves.
