This invention appertains to new'and useful improvements in closures for the upper ends of drilled well pipes, to the end that debris cannot be thrown into the well by school children and others, after the well has been left unattended, nor can reptiles insects or the like get into the Well.
The principal object of the presentinvention is to provide a well closure which will also act as a suspending means for the usual bucket chain, thus preventing theft of the bucket and chain as well as maintaining the well closed during a period of time when the well is to be left unat tended.
Other objects and advantages of the invention Will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing- Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of the upper portion of a well structure showing the well chain and pipe closure.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevational View of the upper end. of a well pipe showing the closure in closed position.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the structure as shown in Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the usual floor or platform surrounding the upper end of the well pipe 6. Numeral i represents an upstanding frame in which the pulley 3 is mounted and over which is trained the usual bucket chain 9 which is attached to the long cylindrical conventional bucket which is not shown in the drawing.
In carrying out the present invention, the band it is disposed around the upper end of the pipe. This band is split and formed at its ends with outstanding flanges H, apertured toreceive the bolts 12-!3 which are equipped with nuts M. It is also preferable that rivets it be used to further secure the band to the upper end of the pipe so that its connection to the pipe will be permanent.
Numeral l6 denotes the closure plate which can be cylindrical or any other shape desirable and across this is secured the strap, ll, one end of which at a. projects beyond the periphery of the plate it and is apertured as at it. The other end portion of the strap I1 is disposed laterally as at W and further formed into a barrel 20 to receive the upper bolt I3. This barrel 2!] is formed with the laterally disposed rib 2! for abutting engagement with the well pipe 5 to limit the opened position of the closure as shown in Figure 2.
The inner side of the closure plate iii is equipped with a hook 22 over which can be engaged a link of the well bucket chain 23. Obviously, with the closing of the upper end of the well pipe 6, the well bucket chain 9 can be stored in the Well pipe 6 by engaging one of its end links over the hook 522 before disposing the plate it to closed position.
The band it is provided with a laterally disposed lug 26 apertured as at 25. When the closure is in closed position, the extending portion a of the strap ll will overlie the lug 24 with its opening [8 in registration with the opening 25 so that the hasp 26 of a padlock 271 can be disposed therethrough.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is 1. In combination with a well pipe, a closure for the upper end thereof and a well bucket chain invention, what is attaching member on the inside of the closure means.
2. In combination with a well pipe, a closure at the upper end of the pipe, a hook at the inner "side of the closure, said hook being adapted to suspend a well bucket chain and bucket in the pipe when the closure is in closed position.
3. In combination with a well pipe, a closure at the upper end of the pipe, said closure comprising a split band having its ends provided with outwardly extending parallel flanges, a member
