Description

.Nov. 7, 1939. s. N. FELDSTEIN DOOR CHECK DEODORIZING SPRAY Filqd Oct. 29, 1957 INVENTOR. N. Fe/a'sfein 51anle TTORNEY.
Patented Nov. 7, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to a door check deodorizing spray for public rooms and the like.
It is well known that public rooms such as wash rooms, lavatories, toilets or the like ordinarily have closed doors because of legal ordi nances, sanitary reasons, public appearances, or to prevent embarrassment to persons of different sexes. This closed condition of such rooms makes for foul and obnoxious odors not properly dissipated by the evaporation or drip of deodorants heretofore in use.
Among the objects of my invention are to provide means adapted upon closing the door of such a room to spray the atmosphere in the room so as to properly deodorize and disinfect the same. My device is attachable to any door or door jamb and the spray may be positioned to contact any desired part of the room. My invention comprises such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention. While I have shown in the accompanying drawing preferred embodiments of my invention, yet I wish it understood that the same are susceptible of modification and change without depart ing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawing, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my device as used in a room; Fig. 2 is a detail view of the door check; Fig. 3 is a detail view of the atomizer and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the door attachment and resilient means,
Referring to the embodiment selected to illustrate my invention, it comprises a structure l0 adapted to be attached to a door II and a door Q5 jamb l2. A preferred form of attachment structure Iii includes a pair of spaced bracket arms 14 attached to the door ll by suitable means such as screws l3 or the like. The inside portion l5 of the arms l4 have serrations 16 to adjustably position a housing I1 held to said arms H by bolts l8. A spring arm I9 has its lower end positioned through an opening 20 in the lower portion of the housing l1 and has an extension 2| passing through an opening 23 in the top portion of the housing 11. A resilient member 24 surrounds substantially all of the body portion 25 of the spring arms 19 and extends upwardly to a collar 26 of the spring arm IS. A ratchet wheel 21 is placed around the body portion 25 of the 50 spring arm l9 adjacent the collar 26 so as to engage the top and end of the spring 24 so that upon turning the ratchet the spring may be tightened or loosened. An arm 28 extending from the collar 26 has a pawl 29 to engage the ratchet 55 wheel 21.
A bracket arm 30 is pivotally attached on one end to bracket 3| attached preferably to the door jamb l2 and on its other end is pivotally attached to the end of arm 28 by suitable means such as bolt 32 and pin 33. Suitably at the middle portion of bracket arm 30 is a flare 34 having an 5 opening 35 adapted to receive the bent outer end 36 of a plunger arm 31 to be held thereto by suitable means such as a pin 39 through hole 39 in the arm 31. The plunger arm moves within compression cylinder 40 and has at its other end a m hook andeye 4| holding a plunger 42 to which is attached a leather compression washer 43 inside of which is positioned a spreader cup 44. A vent extends through the wall of the compression cylinder 40 and is preferably located toward the rear 15 thereof and communicates with a tube 46 leading to an atomizer 41. At the rear end of the compression cylinder 40 is another hole 48 with'a regulating screw 49 to regulate the checking action for closing the door.
20 The air supply tube 46 leads to the atomizer 41 which may be placed at any desired position in the room.
The atomizer 41 has a tank 48 to hold a supply pi deodorizing and disinfectant material, preferably in a liquid state. The tank 48 has a neck 49 on top of which is an overflow well 50. The air pressure tube 46 leads from the compression cylinder 4|] to the removable head SI of the atomizer 41. at right angles to the open end 53 of the liquid tube 54. This construction prevents any flow of liquid into air tube 46 and back into compression cylinder 40.
While I have shown certain forms of attacha ment means, door check means and atomizer means, yet other forms of these means may be used as within the contemplation of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
An atomizer for a door check deodorizing spray 0 comprising an atomizer tank having a supply of deodorizing and disinfectant liquid, a neck extending upwardly from the tank, an overflow well surrounding said neck, an air pressure tube leading from an air compression cylinder through and 5 above the removable head, a liquid exit tube extending upwardly within said tank through said neck and through and above the head and having an opening at its upper end, said air pressure tube extending above said liquid exit tube and having 50 an opening in its inner side wall substantially at right angles to and entirely above the open end of the liquid exit tube so as to prevent any passage of liquid into said air pressure tube and back into said compression cylinder.
STANLEY N. FELDSTEIN.
