Description

Sept. 12,1939. 0. K. HOGLUND ET AL PAPER RACK AND SLICER Filed Nov. 17, 1938' Fig. 2'
Inventors Oswa/d K. Hog/0nd Fred W Herbarf a I Afforneys Patented Sept. 12, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PAPER RACK AND SLICER Oswald K. Hoglund and Fred W. Herbert,
1 Claim.
(Granted under the act of March 3, 1883, as
amended April 30, 1928; 370
This application is made under the act of March 3, 1883, as amended by the act of April 30, 1928, and the invention herein described and claimed, if patented, may be manufactured and used by or for the Government of the United States of America for governmental purposes without the payment to us of any royalty thereon.
We hereby dedicate the invention herein described to the free use of the people of the United States to take effect on the granting of a patent to us.
This invention relates to a device for cutting rolls of paper or other similar textile materials.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide such a device which, while cutting the paper, will automatically indicate the line along which the next succeeding cut is to be made where it is desired to cut the rolls of paper progressively into equal sections.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of the type mentioned which will hold and permit a number of rolls of paper, or other similar material, to be simultaneously submitted to and cut by a shearing knife.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan View and Figure 2 is a front elevational view of this invention.
Referring with more particularity to the drawing in which like numerals designate like parts, the numeral I denotes a base supporting two vertical side members 2 and 3 comprising together a rack. These side members 2 and 3 each carry slots l in spaced relation disposed at an angle running downward to the front or shearing end of the rack, substantially as shown. These slots serve as bearings for the spindles 5 5 of the rolls of paper 6 which are mounted in tandem in such a manner that the rolls of paper mitted to a shearing knife I. Said shearing knife is pivotally mounted at 8 and has a handle 10 9 for manual operation. A bar It is secured at one end to said knife 1 parallel to the base of the rack and such that a marker l I adjustably mounted thereon in the slot IE will mark the top paper when the shearing knife is brought down. A guide roller I3 is provided to keep the paper lengths together as they are submitted to the shearing knife.
Having thus described our invention, we claim:
The combination of a paper rack and slicer 20 comprising a plurality of slotted sections in spaced relation on vertical supports of said rack, said slotted sections being adapted to act as tandem bearings for spindles of rolls of paper, a shearing mechanism horizontally disposed on said rack, and adjustable means integral with said shearing mechanism for marking a line on the paper to indicate the next succeeding cutting line.
