Description
Sept. 5, 1939. F. H. MGCARDELL HAIR CURLER Filed Sept 26, 1938 In ventor wz/Y/Wbrll,
A rneys Patented Sept. 5, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The pres-ent invention relates to hair curlers of a type embodying an elongated flexible member upon which the hair is adapted to be rolled, and has for its primary object to provide a cloth pad secured to the curler and embodying a double layer of material between which the ends of a strand of hair are positioned in order that the same will be held smoothly and rolled upon the curler without permitting any ragged protruding ends.
A further object is to provide a curler of this character of simple and practical construction, which is eicient and reliable in use and otherwise Well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view, and
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially on a line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 5 designates a flexible curler of conventional construction which embodies a leather sheath B having a ilexible Wire core l, the sheath being constructed of a single piece of leather and having its longitudinal edges secured together by stitching 8.
The stitching 8 also passesthrough the intermediate portion of a cloth pad 9 which is folded upon itself, as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawing, to providerdouble layers of cloth material between when the ends of the hair I may be inserted.
Accordingly, in the operation of the device, with the ends of the hair positioned between the cloth pad B, as illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing, the ends of the hair Will be held smoothly and in a substantially uniform plane so that no protruding ends of the hair will occur when the hair and the pad are rolled about the 10 curler 5 in a manner as will be apparent.
It is believed the details of construction will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is- 1. A hair curler comprising an elongated exible curler rod including a flat longitudinal edge and a cloth pad folded upon itself and secured along its line of fold to the flat edge of the rod to provide'a double layer of cloth having free end and side edges and between which the ends of the hair to be curled are adapted for positioning for rolling about the curler. Y
2. A hair curler comprising an elongated member of exible material having one of its longitudinal edges formed with an opening, a cloth pad folded upon itself and between which the ends of the hair to be curled are adapted -for 3 positioning, and stitching securing the pad along its line of fold to the curler and also for securing the open longitudinal edges of the curler together.
