In the drawing which is merely exemplary of one practical form of the invention the reference numeral ll indicates in general that section ofa pair of trousers adjacent the front right-hand pocket. The shield portion extending across the section 19 functions both as a reenforcement and a finishing piece for the inside 5 of the-main pocket, while the flap portion provides a smooth lining-over the fastening means and tends to prevent impressions of the latter from appearing in the outer cloth of the garment. Also, it will be seen from the drawing that the 50 vertical line of stitches ll forming the hinge of the flap is located well inward from the mouth I! of the main pocket H, whereby the flap is at all times concealed within the confines of the main pocket, and that the flap is freely foldable 55 along its entire length to aifordeasy access to the fastening means.

Figure 3 illustrates the application of the invention to the rear pocket for instance of a garment in which the protective flap 2. extends crosswise and may be lifted readily to give finger room for operating the slider 23.

The invention may be embodied in numerous other ways, and therefore is not limited in its applications except as set forth in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent:

A double pocket construction for a garment, comprising a main pocket and a safety pocket including front and rear walls and a partition separating the main pocket from the safety pocket, said partition having an opening, the-edges of the material at opposite sides of said opening being provided with tapes having interlocking fastening elements adapted to be engaged and disengaged by operation of aslider, and a shield extending inward from the mouth of the main pocket and including a flap portion normally covering the fastening means and being foldable and being also connected by a second vertical line of stitches to said partition forming a hinge connection for the flap at a point well inward from the mouth of the main pocket, whereby said flap is concealed whether folded toward the mouth of the main pocket or unfolded to cover the fastening means, said flap portion being free at its top and bottom edg'es affording 'foldability along its entire length to uncover the fastening means for operation, said fastening elements also being located well inward from the mouth of the main pocket providing a substantial width of partition material between the fastening elements and said first named vertical line of stitches, whereby the element carrying portion of the partition has freedom to bulge substantially away from the rear wall of the pocket and thereby provide for easy entry of the hand through the opening resulting from disengaging the fastening elements.
