Description
W. C. HUSTON. Hama-Buckles.
No. 216,520. Patented June17, 1.879. l
WZZIM f', wfzvf: wfg-ggf@ l j.
xmmwwmwew UNITED STATES PATENT GEEIOE.
WILLIAM o. EUsTON, OE EATON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT lN `HAME-BUOKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,520, dated June 17, 1879; application led March 3, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. HUsTON, of. Eaton, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strap Clamps or Fastenin gs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of the specication herein, in which drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my strapfastening, and Figs. 2 and 3 are details of parts thereof.
The object of my invention is to provide a fastening or clamp for haine-straps; and it consists of two pivoted plates so arranged as to automatically clamp or pinch the strap, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A A representtwo metal plates, both slightly curved in opposite directions, as seen in Fig. 1. One plate, A, is slightly broader than the other, and both are provided near one end with two projecting ears, a a, which overlap each other, and are loosely secured by a screw or rivet, b,- thns hinging the two plates together.
One of the plates A A is provided with a small projecting lip, c, which presses against the end of the opposite plate, and, by causing an abrupt bend in the strap, aids materially in holding it secure.
In operation, the hamestrap is secured by one end to one of the plates A and the other end passed through the loops on the hames, and thence between the platesA A, and drawn tight. rIhe constant strain on the strap tends to force the inner ends of the plates apart, and tightly clamps the strap between the lips on the outer ends of the buckle-plates.
This fastening or clamp is designed to be used upon any part of a harness where there is a constant strain, and, by doing away with a tongue, is not so liable to break or tear the strap.
The plates A A may, if desirable, be constructed with the bridges d d and open spaces e e, or with one large open space.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, the fastening or clamp herein described, consist ing of the two plates A A, hinged together and provided with ears a a and the lip c, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimonythat I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses, this 1st day of March, A. D.
WILLIAM C. HUSTON. In presence Of- L. G. ABBOTT, M. L. HOLT.
