Description
June 20, 1939. B. HART I EXTENSION TABLE FOR WASHBASINS AND THE LIKE Filed Sept. 28, 1937 INVENTOR. BARBARA HART' BY 2 ATTORNEY.-
Patented June 20, 1939 EXTENSION TABLE FOR WASHBASINS AND THE LIKE Barbara Hart, San Francisco, Calif.
Application September 28, 1937, Serial No. 166,107
1 Claim.
This invention relates to extension tables for wash basins, sinks, and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide extension tables which can be easily attached to the sides of the usual wash basins, sinks or the like, so as to form a convenient place for dressing or toilet articles or objects to be Washed or drained or used near said wash basin or sink.
Another object of the invention is toprovide an attachment for wash basins, sinks, and the like which can be used as tables or side extensions at the rim or shelf of a basin or sink, and which also have racks or compartments below the tops there of wherein towels, linen, or other articles may be kept or stored.
Another object of this invention is to provide extensions for wash basins, sinks, and the like, which are highly useful and simple in construction. Convenience of arrangement, lightness and comparative inexpense of manufacture are further objects which have been borne in mind in the production and development of the invention.
I am aware that some changes may be made in the general arrangements and combinations of the several devices. and parts, as well as in the details of the construction thereof without departing from the scope of the present invention as set forth in the following specification, and as defined in the following claim; hence I do not limit my invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the said device and parts as described in the said specification, nor do I confine myself to the exact details of the construction of the said parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be made manifest in the following detailed description and specifically pointed out in the appended claim, reference is had to the accompanying drawing for the illustrative embodiment of the invention, wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a wash basin with my extension tables attached to its opposite sides.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a detail side view showing my extension table with towel bars, and
Figure 4 is a detail side view showing my extension table with a drawer.
In carrying out my invention I make use of a table top 6 from which extends a bracket 1 at such angle that when the bracket is in position on a side flange 8 of a wash basin 9, then the table top 6 is held substantially in horizontal alignment with the rim shelf l l of said basin 9.
In the herein illustration the rim flange 8 extends downwardly and it is substantially vertical,
therefore the bracket 1 is at about right angles to the plane of the table top 6.
The table top 6 is recessed at l2 so as to form a tray-like upper surface with a. retaining rim I3 all around. Into this recess I2 is removably 5 fitted a transparent panel M to form a fiat and clean table surface.
The bracket 1 is of substantially U shaped vertical cross section so as to be slidable upwardly over the lower edge of said rim flange 8. The outer wall l6 of the bracket 1 conforms to the shape of the outer surface of the rim flange 8 and it is drawn against said rim flange 8 by means of suitable set screws l! which are threaded into the inner wall l8 of the bracket 1 and 15 bear against the inside of the rim flange 8.
Parallel spaced transverse walls l9 extend from the outer bracket wall l6 and from the underside of the table top 6. Between these substantially triangular transverse walls l9 are mounted a plu- 20 rality of bars 2| which serve as towel bars or the like. Towels held on the bars 2| are protected by the extension table top 6 against accidental moistening or soiling yet they are readily available and can be reached without moving from 25 the wash basin or sink.
On the other extension table, on the right viewing Fig. 2, the walls 22 define a. support for a drawer 23 in which latter articles can be kept so as to be protected by the table top 6. The ex- 30 tension tables herein described are easily removable from the basin or sink when out of use and can be readily attached to any sink or basin which has a rim flange. The device materially enlarges the supporting surface at the side rim of a basin 35 or sink without the necessity of any alteration on the bathroom fixtures, or walls. It does not require separate supporting legs or the like and can be readily utilized in the usually limited space of a bathroom, kitchen or the like. The extension 40 table top may be used as a tray, or shelf, or as a drain shelf it does not require any complicated adjustment or setting up, therefore it is eminently adapted for use in households and the like.
Having thus described my invention what I 45 new claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An extension table for wash basins and the like comprising a top, a bracket secured to and extended downwardly from the top and adapted to 5 fit over a depending side flange of said wash basin, means to fasten the bracket to said side flange so as to hold said top in extension of the usual rim of said basin, spaced transverse walls below and secured to said top, and means be- 55 tween and supported by said transverse walls to support articles in place below said table.
BARBARA HART.
