Description
F. KUMUTAT Feb. 21, was.
Filed June 22, 1958 Patented Feb. 21, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to window platforms and more particularly to devices removably engageable with the sills of windows when the sash is raised.
An object of the invention is to provide a platform capable of being extended through a window opening and positively secured in a manner to permit a person to sit or stand safely thereon without danger of its tilting.
A further feature is in the provision of a cross barrier adjustable along the outer portion of the platform and held in adjusted position therealong.
Another purpose is to produce an adjustable clamping means, suited to all types of common Windows, whereby the platform is firmly held in position to the sill.
These several objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the annexed drawing, forming a material component of this disclosure, and in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of an embodiment of the invention as ready for service.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the same.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figure 4 is a side elevational View of the device.
Figure 5 is a perspective View illustrating the platform as arranged in operative position with respect to a window.
The device, as shown applied to a conventional type of window in Figure 5, consists of a flat, level platform l5, an elongated rectangle in plan and of such length as to extend outwardly a considerable distance beyond the window.
Secured to the under side of the platform, or stand, contiguous to its side edges, are metal re-enforcing strips I6 having longitudinal slots I! by which are guided opposed pairs of slides l8 carrying a transverse block IS in length coincident with the width of the platform I5.
At the center of the block are fixed nuts 20 engaged by a screw 2| provided with a winged head 22. At the underside of the head is a washer 23 impinging against the end of the platform and a re-enforcing plate 24 on the under side of the platform.
Fixed on the plate 24 are the shanks 25 of down reaching hooks 26 adapted to engage the inreaching portion of the window sill, so that as the screw is turned the block I9 is drawn firmly against the outer portion of the sill, forming a secure clamping device by which the platform is rigidly attached to the window.
Set permanently in the side edges of the platform IS, in its rear portion, are channels 28 provided with a series of spaced apertures 29, receptive of detents 3U, operated by lever handle 3| pivoted in brackets 32 fixed on the lower edges of a barrier 33, which acts as a guard to prevent the user accidentally moving too far out on the platform, or articles from dropping off, the barrier being adjustable to suit the user.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple device for this purpose has been disclosed in the preferred form of its embodiment, but it is not desired to restrict the details to the exact construction shown, it being obvious that changes, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made without conflicting with the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and sought to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
A window platform comprising a level stand, slotted re-enforcements disposed lengthwise on the bottom of said stand, slides movable on said 35 re-enforcements, a cross block carried by said slides, down reaching hooks fixed on the front end of said stand, a screw to draw said block towards said hooks, a barrier slidable on said stand, and means to adjustably secure said barrier thereon.
