IMPROVEMENT'IN WHEELS FOR FURNITURE-CASTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 214,518, dated April 22, 1879 application filed January 19, 1874.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOSEPH ll'IUNGER, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain Improvements in Casters, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to certain improvements in the wheels or rollers of furniturecasters, whereby greater durability, improved appearance, and cheapness of construction are attained; and the invention consists in the novel combination and use of a struck-up shell, forming the bod-y of the wheels, a disk or end piece, and suitable filling or center; and it further consists in the use of a tube or hearing, when needed, for strengthening purposes, through which the pin or axle of the caster passes, all as hereinafter more fully described and definitely claimed.

Figure 1 shows a vertical section of wheel; Figs. 2 and 3, the section and end of shell; Figs. 4 and 5, the section and end of tube;

Figs. '6 and 7, the section and end of filling; Figs. 8 and 9, the section and end of disk.

The wheel is made of a shell, X, struck up in the shape shown in the drawings, Fig. 2. Into the open end of shell X is placed the disk or end piece To give strength to the wheel when a thin shell is used, a filling or center, Z, is inclosed. For the purpose of producing a smooth bearing and stiffening the wheel, the tube to is used, through which the pin or axle passes.

I claim as my invention- 1. A caster-wheel consisting of a shell, X, disk Q, and center or filling, Z, substantially as described.

- 2. A caster-wheel, consisting of a shell, X, disk y, center or filling Z, and tube or hearing w, substantially as described.
