Description
G. WRIGHT. Ironing-Machine.
Patented April 15, 1879.
Will 01960".
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE WRIGHT, OF PIKE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,340, dated April 15, 1879; application filed February 1, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WRIGHT, of Pike, in the county of Wyoming and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Machines and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying the improvements in my invention, and Fig. 2 is a detail view of the iron.
This invention has relation to machines for ironing cuffs and collars; and it consists .of a stand carrying a roller of wood covered with cloth, above which is adjustably and removably suspended an iron, made solid, and adapted to be-heated upon the stove like an ordinary sad-iron. Above an arm from which the iron is suspended is an arm rigidly secured to -an upright of the stand, and provided with an eccentric-lever, by which the adjustable removable iron may be adjusted to compress the cuff or collar between the iron and the roller. The roller has a crank, by which it is operated to carry the fabric or article through between the roller and the iron. When the iron becomes cool it may be replaced by a heated one, all of which 'will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the stand, having the short standard B and the long standard O, which furnish bearings for theroller D. The roller D may have a concave surface, as shown in Fig. 1, or it may have a straight surface. The lower surface of the solid iron E should correspond with the surface of the roller D. The iron E is secured by studs F, or in any other suitable manner, to the under face of an arm, F, provided with a laterally-perforated stud, G, which enters a slot, H,in the upper end of the standard 0, and is held therein by a rod, I, which forms a hinge-joint, and permits the arm to be removed at will. An arm, J, upon the standard 0 projects inwardly over the roller D, is bifurcated at its inner end, and carries the cam-lever K, by which the iron E is adjusted through its arm F.
This ironer may be secured by any suitable means, such as a clamp-screw, to any convenient table.
The roller D may be covered with paper in lieu of cloth.
The operation of the invention is obvious.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an ironing device carrying a roller, D, the stand A, having standard O and fixed arm J, carrying cam-lever K, in combination with the solid iron E, secured to the arm F,
provided with the stud G, and held in the slot H by the removable rod I, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing improvements, as above described, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 15th day of January, 1879.
GEORGE WRIGHT. [L. s.]
