Application January 11, 1938, Serial No. 184,475
7 Claims.
The invention relates to a punch and shearing machine and more especially to a combined hand or power operated punching and shearing machine.
The primary object of vision of a machine of this character, wherein a of metal tible of turning movement for changing its position for operation, readily and easily operated o manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in View, the incombination and arrangement of parts as will be In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the machine con.- structed in accordance with the invention looking toward the front thereof.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is an end elevation.
Figure 4 is an opposite end elevation partly in section.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 6 is afragmentary sectional view taken on the line 66 of Figure 5 looking in the direction of the arrows.
- Figure 7 is a rear elevation of-the machine.
.it'i i@ of Figure 6 Figure 8 is a detail piece for the punch rack.
Figure 9 is a perspective view of one of the punches.
Figure 10 is a fragmentary enlargedhorizontal sectional View taken through a series of punches and the rack therefor approximately .on the line and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
supporting legs ii in. association With horizontal rungs if? and this stand has built therewith a horizontally disposed top it o-nwhich isboltedor otherwise fastened a bed E4 of circular form for a turntable 55 being rotatably arbored or pivoted at iii and constitutes the base for the frame 1.! which is of substantially C-shape describedin detail hereinafter.
The frame H has a horizontally disposed work bed is and this frame opens in the direction of the front of the machine. Theframe IT has formed therewith at the upper portion of the same and in overhanging relation to the bed 18 a vertically disposed fiat plate-like head 19 carrying spaced bearings 26 punched, the perforations 28' therein being 'for accommodating the punches 26 on actuation of the plungers 25 carrying the same.
The carriers in the in which is journaled a perspective view of a spacer eccentric or cam 33, being keyed at 34 in the keyway 22 in said shaft and this eccentric or cam can be manually moved to bring the same directly over a selected plunger 25 for operating its punch 26 carried thereby. The ring 35 is mounted on and secured on the cam or eccentric by a key as and includes an annular flanged groove 35' to slidably receive a tenon-shaped portion of a block 36. The latter has a dove tail groove 31 to receive any one of the tenons 38 on the plungers 25 and in this manner the block is detachably coupled selectively with any one of the plungers 25 and on rotation of the shaft 2% the eccentric or cam 33 will actuate a plunger 25 for punching operation by its companion punch 25 cooperating with the die or anvil 21.
The shaft, for example, is operated by a turning lever 39 although it may be power driven or otherwise mechanically or electrically operated.
Arranged at the rear of the head 99 is a rocking arm 40 turnable on the axle stud M projected from the said head and at one end is formed a toothed sector 42 meshing with a segmental gear 43 fixed to the lever 39 so that on reciprocation or arcuate swing of the latter the arm it will rock. This arm Ml at the other end has a depending extension 44 carrying a movable shearing blade 45 coacting with a stationary blade it on the head l9 and in this manner work can be sheared in the cutting of sheet metal or other material. The arm M is limited in its rocking movement by stop lugs if on the head is and accommodated within arcuate slots Q8 provided in the arm 49.
Provided in the head l9 and in the arm d0 are registering shearing openings es and so, respectively, these being of different shapes throughout the companion relation thereof so that a round bar, a square bar, an L bar or a T bar or other work can be severed or sheared when passed through these openings 49 and Eli when registering with each other on the movement of the arm 40, the machine being universal in kind for punching and shearing uses.
The turntable it: allows the frame I! to be turned and in thisway satisfying the requirements of an operator with respect to a selected positioning of the machine for the operation of the same.
The open front of the frame H enables an operator of the machine to easily select a punch 26 of meeting requirements and this is carried forth by the shifting of the cam or eccentric 33 to the location of the selected punch for the working thereof on the turning of the shaft 2?. by the lever 39 or otherwise.
The cam or eccentric 33 is of a kind to effect the proper throw of the plunger 25 for the successful working of its companion punch 25 carried thereby.
It is to be understood that in the shearing operation flat, T-shaped, round, angle and square pieces of work of metal can be readily and easily sheared while metal work can be punched in conformity with the requirements as to the size of the hole to be made or punched therein.
