OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPOOL-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,215, dated February 11, 1879; application filed July 20, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAWRENCE N. B. GRAY, of Boston, in the county of. Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool Case and Holder, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and convenient device for holdingspool-thread, scissors, needles, wax, emcry, and other articles used in sewing, with convenient pin-cushion attached thereto; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangementof the various parts forming the device, hereinafter more fully explained and set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention in a closed position. Fig. 2 is a similar View when open for use.
A represents a vertical case, at the base or lower portion of which is formed the open box or receptacle B, and provided with feet 0, to enable it to stand firmly upon a table when being used, a hole, D, in its back or top portion permitting it to be suspended upon the wall as a pocket when desired.
E represents a hinged or pivoted door, held closed in avertieal position by a spring-catch, F, as shown in Fig. 1, a knob, G, permitting the fingers to be applied thereto, in order to open or turn down the door E, as shown in Fig. 2. This door may have any suitable picture or a mirror inserted in the oval frame H, Fig. 1, and its inner or reverse side may be similarly supplied, and in addition thereto the holders K for papers of needles, scissors, stilettos, 85c. (Shown in Fig. 2.)
The interior of the case A is supplied with spool-racks L, having a series of vertical pins or studs, N, upon which the spools of thread may be placed, so as to permit them to be revolved in drawing or unwinding thread from the same, as heretofore.
At the top of the case A is provided a pin and needle cushion, P, the whole device form ing a very unique appearance, being ornamental and useful, and adapted to the wants of every well-regulated household.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The above-described spool case and holder, consisting of the case A, having the box or receptacle B, and provided with the feet 0, the door E, having the frame H, and holders K, in combination with the spool-racks L N and pin-cushion P, all being constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
