This invention relates to boxes or cartons, and has special reference to boxes or cartons made of cardboard or the like.

An object of the invention is to provide an imp proved box or carton having a bottom wall provided with integral or attached upward extensions along its margin confined between and attached to inner and outer wall forming plies whereby the outer Wall and the bottom wall are securely connected.

The lid of the box may also be formed in a similar manner so that the side wall of the lid will telescope about the side wall of the lower portion of the box or carton.

Other objects of the invention will be readily apparent from the following description, reference being made to the annexed drawing, in which- Fig. l is a plan view showing the inner side of 20 the outer wall before the same is folded or shaped for attachment to the top or bottom wall of the box or carton.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of a wall constructed for use to form the bottom wall or the top Wall of the box or carton.

The side wall shown in Fig. 1 comprises a strip I of cardboard or the like forming the outer surface of either the lid or the lower part of the box. Said strip has an inturned margin 2 folded against and attached to the inner side of said strip I and which may be provided with a decorative stripe 3.

The Wall 4 is designed and adapted to form either the bottom wall of the box or the top wall 4' of the lid of the box. As shown, the wall is substantially heart-shaped., although it may be made in any desired shape and is provided with a series of integral or attached tongues or ngers 5 extending from its edge and adapted to be folded at right angles to the Wall 4 against the inner surface of the wall formed by the strip I and below the edge of the marginal portion 2 of said 55 strip. The wall I is attached to the tongues or fingers 5 by glue or other appropriate fastening means so that the two Walls I and 4 will be held securely together. 'Ihe edge of the wall I is in alinement with the outer surface of the Wall 4, thereby strengthening the corner. The tongues 5 or fingers 5 are of approximately the same thickness as the infolded ply 2 (Fig. 3) and terminate adjacent to the edge of said ply 2. A strip 6 is attached to the inner surfaces of the tongues or ngers 5 entirely around the inside of the box and covers said tongues or fingers and constitutes an additional reinforcement and ornamenting device. The strip 6 has one edge seated against the Wall 4 and the opposite edge approximately in alinement with the edge of the infolded ply 2.

An alternative construction is shown in Figs. 4 and 6. As there shown, a wall I is attached to the tongues or fingers 5 and has its edge in alinement with the exposed surface of the wall 4. Instead of forming an inturned ply 2 integral with the wall I', a separate strip 'I is attached to the inner surfaces of the tongues or fingers 5 and to the inner surface of the wall I' beyond the tongues or ngers 5, said strip extending the full Width of the wall I and having its exposed edge in alinement with the exposed edge of said strip I.

A box of this construction may be manufactured at comparatively low cost and is strong and durable. The ends of the wall I may be attached by an interlocking arrangement 8 or otherwise, as desired. The construction may be varied within the scope of equivalent limits Without departure from the nature and principle of the invention.

I claim:-

LA box or carton comprising a bottom wall, fingers integral with the margin of said bottom wall and extending vertically and having cut-out notches between them of increasing Width from the margin of said bottom Wall to the upper ends of said ngers, a curved enclosing wall surrounding said bottom wall and being vertical throughout its Width and attached to the outer surfaces of said fingers and leaving said fingers offset inwardly from the entire inner surface of said enclosing Wall, and an elongated curved strip attached to the inner side of and covering said fingers and having its lower edge seated upon said bottom wall throughout the length of said strip and its upper edge approximately in alinernent with the upper endsof said fingers throughout the length of said strip.
