Description

UNrrED STATES. PATENT FFICE.
JESSE A. ORANDALL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOLDING-TOYS.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 211,837, dated February 4, 1879; application led December 17, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEssE A. GRANDALL, of Brooklyn, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Molding- Toy, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of my improved molding-toy. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of one of the molds and forms. Fig. 3 is a top view oi' the molded sand. Fig. 4 is a detail face view of a molding-letter.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
The object of this invention is to produce for the use of children an apparatus by means of which they may be enabled to form sand into amusing and instructive shapes.
The invention consists in combining a sandreceptacle with the molding and shaping devices, and with means for holding them in place free from the sand.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A represents a box or receptacle, of wood or other material, fitted with a removable drawer, B, which is to contain the sand. The removable drawer is very convenient to enable the child to properly fill in the sand and to use the sand when required; but instead of the drawer the box may be constructed otherwise to form a sand-receptacle in its lower part.
Above the sand-receptacle is a removable partition, C, upon which the molding-tools D E F, &c., can be placed, as shown in Fig. l. At the upper part, the boX A is provided with a lid or cover, G, so that all the contents may p be properly inclosed. i
The child, having a proper supply ot' sand, can till the same from the receptacle B into the molds D, stamp it therein with the forms E, and/thus produce cakes or articles of sand of fancifulbamusing, or instructive shapes.
Letter-molds F can be particularly used for at once instructing and amusing the child.
This apparatus, which I propose to call the sandometerj will therefore be useful by giving to children an employment in which they will become proficient in the art of molding, and in the understanding ot' the forms which they can produce.
I claim- 1. The box A, having drawer or sand-receptacle B, and combined with sand molding or forming tools, substantially as herein shown and described. ,l
2. The combination of the box A, having sand-receptacle B, with the partition C, all arranged for the reception of sand and of molding or forming tools, substantially as herein shown and described.
JESSE A. CRANDALL.
