Of course the invention is not limited to any specific means for clamping the blade on the bladeholder. and I have illustrated in Fig. 9 of the drawing a modii'ied form which dispenses with the turnbutton 32 and provides a slotted or notched tongue 33 at one end of the blade holder under which the blade is podtioned and then snapped or sprung into position over the ribs 30.

A portion of this movement of the cap, that is. the extreme of this opening movement, is due to gravity.
When the cap is moved to its open position and the upward movement of the elevator is continued, the linger Si on the ratchet rack 35 will engage the upper end of the slot Il and cause the ratchet rack to pivot in a direction to turn the ratchet pinion 88 and the blade holder 29 a distance of 180 degrees, thus turning the blade holder with the blade therein and reversing the position of the blade in the razor. As this operation is completed the upward movement of the elevator is stopped or tenninated as, for example, by means of the screw.22 in the end of the rod It.

While I have illustrated and described what I believe to be a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that various changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts without departing from the invention, hence I do not limit myself to the speciilc details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

A safety razor including a guard, a handle secured to the guard, an elevator movable in the guard, a cap pivotally connected to the elevator, a blade holder having rotary mounting in the elevator, cooperating means between the guard and cap causing the cap to swing from closed to open position when the elevator is moved in one direction and from open to closed position when the elevator is moved-in the oppodte direction, and means for turning the blade holder and blade therein through an arc of approximately 180 degrees as the elevator reaches the extreme of its movement in a direction to open the raacr, said last mentioned means including a ratchet pinion on the blade holder, a pivoted ratchet rack on the elevator engaging the pinion, a ilnger on the ratchet rack movable in a slot in the guard and causing the rack to swing in opposite directions when the finger engages the opposite ends of the rack, longitudinal ribs on the blade holder adapted to enter a slot in the blade, and a turnbutton on the blade holder adapted to clamp the blade to the holder.
9. A safety razor including a guard of general inverted channel shape, an elevator movable in the guard, a cap pivotally connected to the elevator, a blade holder having rotary mounting in the elevator, means for moving the elevator in the guard, means for causing the cap to swing out of position above the guard when the blade holder is elevated, and means adapted to turn the blade holder when the elevator approaches the extreme of its upward movement.

A safety razor including a guard, a handle affixed to the guard, an elevator movable in the guard, a cap pivotally connected to the elevator, a lug on the guard, a finger on the cap adapted to engage the lug and cause the cap to swing from a position above the guard to a position outside of the guard and vice versa, a blade holder having rotary mounting in the elevator, and means for turning the blade holder when the elevator nears its highest position.

A safety razor including a guard, a handle ailixed to the guard, an elevator movable in the guard, a cap pivotally connected to the elevator, a lug on the guard, a ilnger on the cap adapted to engage the lug and cause the cap to swing from a position above the guard to a position outside of the guard and vice versa, a blade holder having rotary mounting in the elevator, and means for turning the blade holder when the elevator nears its highest position, a threaded rod affixed to the elevator and projecting into the handle, a sleeve mounted to turn in the handle and having threaded engagement with the rod, a knob on the lower end of the sleeve outside of the handle, and means for limiting the movement of the elevator.
