Description

L. W. JOYCE April 12, 1938.
DISPLAY Filed July 23, 1936 Patented Apr. 12, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFEQE Application July 23,
7 Claims.
This invention relates to a combined overall display form and advertising medium. It is essential in such a display that it be compact, simple, inexpensive, light, foldable and demountable. Likewise, it must display the garment so that the seams, reinforced portions and shoulder straps will be exposed to view.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a full length display for garments, such as overalls, which may be shipped in a knocked-down condition, quickly assembled, and will display the garment to advantage.
Another object is to provide a resilient frame on which the garment may be placed with suitable supports, and at the same time, will carry descriptive advertising matter concerning the garment.
Other objects will be disclosed in the specification and claims forming a part hereof.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective showing the frame in display position with the garment in dotted lines;
Figure 2 is a perspective of the display in knocked-down position;
Figure 3 is a detail section taken on the line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a vertical section on the line 4-4 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1; and
Figure 6 is a vertical section taken on the line 66 of Figure 5.
Referring to the drawing, in which similar parts are designated by like numerals:
Numeral l designates a display having a lowe front piece 8 formed of double U-shaped legs 9 and Nl,-the inner sides 1 l of the legs formed from a single piece of wire and formed below the outer ends 12 and 13. A socket I4 is placed on each end 12 and I3 and spot-welded or otherwise secured thereto, the wire forming the frame continuing beyond the sockets I4 to form cross piece I5, being spot-welded or soldered at 15 to a strut Il extending from the top I8 of the inner sides II. The lower portion of the U-shaped legs in the form of feet l9, are V-shaped, coming to a point at 20 and 2!.
Pivotally secured to the cross bar 15 is a U- shaped brace 22, having hangers 23 slidable on the cross bar l5 and spaced from the ends of the cross bar when in collapsed position but in frictional contact with the sockets 14 when in supporting position. A U-shaped spacer member 24 is pivotally and slidably secured to the lower end 1936, Serial No. 92,220 (Cl. 223-68) 25 of the brace 22, the front face 26 of the spacer member 24 having turned up bends 21 adapted to extend beneath the U-shaped feet 19 and over the points 20 and 2!, locking the frame in position. An upper front piece 28, made of a single piece of resilient wire and bent in a substantial U has its free ends 29 and 30 removably supported in the sockets 14. A cross piece 3! is spot-welded or soldered adjacent the top. The sides 32 and 33 of the front piece 28 are bent inwardly at 34 to add resiliency and shape to the upper front piece 28. An advertising plate 35 is slid over the top portion 36 of the upper display 28.
As actually used, the top portion 28 is inserted in the socket I4, the legs of the garment being placed on the front piece 8, the legs 9 and ill of the frame 1 being inserted in the legs of the garment, the garment being raised up over the upper front piece 28, the suspender straps being passed over the cross piece 3| and secured to the buttons 20 on the bib of the overall. The sides of the garment are buttoned around the projection 31 formed in the brace 22. The brace 22 is then moved into position, the bends 21 being snapped over the points 20 and 2 I, thus locking the display in position.
In shipping, the display will be folded as shown in Figure 2, the front piece 28 being removed from the sockets l4 and the spacer 24 folded up against the lower front piece 8, the whole forming a very compact, light structure.
Numerous variations may doubtless be devised by persons skilled in the art without departing from the principles of my invention. I, therefore, desire no limitations to be imposed on my invention, except such as are indicated in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A display form comprising a lower portion having U-shaped members connected together 40 and adapted to receive a leg of a garment, a support pivotally connected at one end to said form, spacers connected to the other end of said support and having an upturned front locking portion, the lower ends of said U-shaped members 5 being indented to form locking points, the upturned front locking portion being adapted to fit over said points and lock said display in position.
2. A display form comprising a lower portion having U-shaped members connected together 50 and adapted to receive a leg of a garment, an upper portion extending from said lower portion and adapted to display the remainder of the garment, a support pivotally connected at one end to said form, spacers connected to the other end 55 of said support and having an upturned front locking portion, the lower ends of said U-shaped members being indented to form locking points, the upturned front locking portion being adapted to fit over said points and lock said display in position.
3. A display form comprising a lower portion having U-shaped members connected together and adapted to receive the legs of a garment, an upper portion detachably connected to said lower portion to display the remainder of the garment, and means detachably connecting said portions together, a support pivotally connected at one end to said form, spacers connected to the other end of said support and having an upturned front locking portion, the lower ends of said U-shaped members being indented to form locking points, the upturned front locking portion being adapted to fit over said points and lock said display in position.
4. A display form comprising a bifurcated lower frame made from a single piece of resilient material, the bifurcated portion forming legs and having V-shaped feet, the ends of the frame being secured together, a support pivotally and slidably secured to the top of the frame, spacers extending from said support and having upwardly upturned portions, said portions adapted to pass beneath said feet and over the V-shaped portions and lock the support in position.
5. A display form comprising a bifurcated lower frame made from a single piece of resilient material, the bifurcated portion forming legs, the
lower ends of said legs being indented to form locking points, the ends of the frame being secured together, a support pivotally and slidably secured to the top of the frame, spacers of resilient material extending from the free end of said support and having outwardly upturned portions, said portions adapted to pass beneath said feet and be sprung over the indents and lock the support in position, sockets formed in the top of said frame, an upper U-shaped frame having its free ends mounted in said sockets.
6. A display form comprising a bifurcated lower frame made from a single piece of resilient material, the bifurcated portion forming legs, the lower ends of said legs being indented to form locking points, the ends of the frame being secured together, a support pivotally secured to the top of the frame, spacers of resilient material extending from the free end of said support and having outwardly upturned portions, said portions adapted to pass beneath said feet and be sprung over the indents and lock the support in position.
7. A display form for overalls or the like comprising a frame divided into an upper and lower portion, a support for said display pivotally connected to the upper end of the lower portion, the lower portion having locking projections, resilient means on said support adapted to be sprung over said projections for locking said support in supporting position.
