Application October 15, 1936, Serial No. 105,699 4 Claims. (Cl. 211-33) This invention relates to a stand adapted to device is constructed as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and support hats and other articles, more particu- 3, it consists of two cooperating plate members larly small articles of wearing apparel, such as 9 and H], the plate member 9 having at the midgloves. length of its bottom edge a recess ll desirably 5 Among the objects of the invention are to proof an arcuate character. Said recess divides the 5 vide a pair of simplified interlocking members of lower portion of the plate into the foot portions a fla character which m y be nv n n ly :2. At its upper end plate 9 is furnished with two ipp stored in a p a sem upward extensions E3 which are separated by a form and which may be quickly assembled to recess M located at the mid-width of the plate.

Referring to the ac o p drawing which In assembling the device, the two plate mem- 33 illustrates What are at present deemed to be bers are interlocked as in Fig. 1 this being done 5 ferred embod s of the invention, by telescoping the slotted portion of one plate Fig. 1 is a persp View Of the device in over the slot portion of the other plate in such its assembled condition designed for use as a hat a manner that the S101; 5 W111 fit Over the imnerstand, the outline of a hat supported thereon befomte mid width portion f plate n while the 4!) ins indicated by dotted lines slot I! will fit over the mid-width portion of the Fi ss a s elevation of one of the two plate plate 9. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of one of t F fiat parallel sides in order that when the two cooperating members or" which the modification plate members are interlocked in t manner shown in F 4 t0 6 is fOfmedstated a very close fit will be provided and one is 5 is a side elevation of the other eccperetwhich will prevent capacity for fiexion or racking ih e b used in the modification the device. That is to say, it will be of a stable to Fi 6 is a transverse section on line of character and each plate in the assembled con- Fig. 5. dition will maintain itself substantially in a right Fig. '7 is a transverse section on line 1-! of angle relation to the other plate. Fig. 4. In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 4
Referring in detail to the drawing, when the to '7, in place of the plate members which have 5 been described wire frames 20 and 2| are used. Each of these frames consisting of a wire bent in such a manner as to produce a figure the outline of which is the same as that of the plates already described, The result is that the device produced is furnished with foot portions and upward ex tensions which for the sake of convenience are lettered the same as those in the form first described except for the addition of the letter a. At the mid-width of the device, however, the frame 20 is furnished with a slot 25 which extends from the bottom of the recess Ma nearly to the top of the bottom recess Ila.
The four upward extensions l3 with which the assembled stand is equipped each furnish a support upon which a felt or brimless hat may be sustained at the same time, while one or more pairs of gloves may be supported in a crisscrossed position at the center of the device.
Referring to specific details of the bent wire construction, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the abutting faces of the wire at each side of the slots are flattened to aid in maintaining a right angular formation of the assembled wire members 20 and 2|.
The slot 26 of the wire member 20 is wider than the slot 21 of the other wire member. The slot 26 is made the widest in order that the wire bend 28, which is not flattened, may have suflicient room to enter said slot. The body portion of slot 21 is narrower because the slotted portion of the other member over which it straddles is narrowed as shown in Fig. 6. The lower portion of slot 21 is widened at 29 to accommodate the bottom wire at 30. It will be observed that in the wire form'of the device the slotted portions come opposite to each other throughout their entire lengths.
Each foot portion I2 has a straight, horizontal bottom edge to rest squarely upon any fiat horizontal surface upon which the device may be placed. Each arcuate recess II is shown of a greater width than the foot portion at each side thereof in order to provide foot portions that are not too wide and cumbersome. At the outer edge of each plate the same is cut away in such a manner as to furnish a shoulder s which is positioned to form a rest for the lower portion of a hat hung solely upon said plate.
The slot 29 by means of a taper fades into the narrower slot 21. Similarly the inner portions of the slots I5 and I! may be provided with matchable tapers to provide a superior clinching means whereby the two members may be held more positively against relative movement.
The four rounded upwardly directed extensions l3 of the assembled stand cooperate to maintain,
in a smoothly extended condition, the crown portion of a soft hat resting upon them.
Although I have described my invention in detail and therefore utilized certain specific terms located at the bottom of the assembled stand,
each of said forms being furnished along its mid-width with a slot open at one end, one of said slots being directed upwardly and fitting over the intact mid-width portion of the one form, and the other of said slots being directed downwardly and fitting over the intact midwidth portion of the other form.
2. A stand consisting of two interlocked mem-' bers each constructed of a single strand of wire,
each of said members having at each end a recess at its mid-width, one of said recesses -ofeach member being located at the top of the assembled stand and the other said recess being located at the bottom of the assembled stand, each of said members being furnished along its mid-width with a slot open at one end,'one of said slots being directed upwardly and fitting over the intact mid-width portion of one member, and the other of said slots being directed downwardly and fitting over the intact midwidth portion of the other member.
3. A hat stand consisting of two assembled wire frames eachv having substantially the same contour and each having an end recess at its mid-width to form feet for the assembled stand, the width of said recess being greater than the width of either of said feet, each of said frames having a slot at substantially its mid-width, one of which is the reverse of the other; to adapt one frame for having its mid-width portion fitted over that of the other frame and whereby said frames are maintained in an assembled right angle relation to the other.
4. The subject matter of claim 3 and, each of said frames in the assembled stand having a central top recess and an external shoulder, said shoulder being positioned to form a rest for the lower portion of a hat hung upon said frame.
