Description
L. M. MARBLE GARMENT HANGER Jan. 4, 1938.
Filed March 9, 1957 azz/5:: V
Patented Jan. 4, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to an improved garment hanger, and it comprises a combination hanger for both coat and trousers or skirt wherein a shaped shoulder form, advantageously made of Wood, and a trouser bar are held together at each end of the bar by two wire posts and a resilient clamping member extending substantially the' full length of the trouser bar is positively held against the bar at one end by a wire coil fitted around and freely turnable upon one of the wire posts with a bearing on the shoulder form, the clamping member being provided with latching means detachably holding it against the bar at the other end, the clamping member being advantageously integral with the wire coil; all as more fully hereinafter set forth and claimed.
Many garment hangers have been invented and all leave something to be desired in convenience, effectiveness, and simplicity of construction.
It is an object achieved in the present invention to provide a coat hanger capable also of holding a pair of trousers or the like upon a trouser bar with a positive action and with free adjustment; at the same time being convenient, effective, simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
In the accompanying drawing I have shown more or less diagrammatically a garment hanger within my invention and accomplishing the stated objects. In this showing,
Fig. 1 is a perspective View showing the clamping member detached; I
Fig. 2 is an elevational view showing the clamping member attached and holding a garment;
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal longitudinal sectional and elevational view on the line 44 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a sectional detail View along the line 5-5 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 6 is a sectional view along the line 6-6 of Fig; 2. 7
Referring to the figures, a shoulder form ll,
, shaped and fitted to receive a garment such as a coat, is provided with a hanging hook I2. Advantageously, the shoulder piece H is formed of wood in known ways. A bar or rod I3, also advantageously of wood or a similar material, holds the trousers or similar garment. This trouser bar I3 is rigidly held from the shoulder piece I l.
formed for the purpose. The coil serves as a bearing member for the clamping wire providing free rotation around the binding post. Wire member I5 has a natural spring action and a free movement. Coil It turns freely upon the binding post and serves as a positive means for holding the clamping member IS in position to press downwardly against the bar l3, at the same time allowing free movement of the clamping member. The coil may also have a spring action but a primary function is that of a freely moving bearing and holding member for the clamping member. Latching means I8, advantageously formed as a loop upon the opposite end of member l5 and integral therewith, fits around bar l3 and holds member 15 against the bar. When attached by means of the latch, the clamping member is held against the trouser bar and being resilient is well adapted by spring action to hold a garment designated 20 upon the bar.
The arrangement of the coil turning freely upon its wire post with bearing against the shoulder form and being integral with or fixed to the wire clamping member, serves as positive, movable, effective, convenient, simple and inexpensive means for detachably holding a garment upon the trouser bar.
What I claim is:
1. An improved garment hanger comprising in combination a shoulder form shaped for a coat and provided with hanging means, a bar extending lengthwise under the shoulder form, two wire posts fixed to the shoulder form and rigidly holding the bar at each end, a resilient clamping member extending substantially the full length of said bar, a wire coil attached to the. clamping member and fitted around and freely turnable upon one of said posts and bearing against the shoulder form to hold. the clamping member against the bar at one end and latching means detachably holding the clamping member against the bar at the other end.
2. An improved garment hanger comprising a shoulder piece of wood or the like, a trouser bar also of wood longitudinally disposed under the shoulder piece, two wire posts fixed to the shoulder piece and holding the trouser bar at each end thereof, awire clamping member extending substantially the full length of the trouser bar, a wire coil integral with the clamping member fitted and freely turnable around one of the wire posts with bearing against the shoulder piece so as to hold one end of the clamping member against the trouser bar and latching means formed upon the other end of the clamping member for detachably holding the wire clamping member against the bar.
