2 Claims.
While the invention herein described and claimed is applicable to a great variety of firearms it is particularly applicable to automomatics (semi-automatic and/or full-automatic) 5 of the type in which the receiver is open at the bottom and the frame which carries the firecontrol mechanism telescopes over the open bottom from the rear, the upper side of the frame being open to permit interengagement between 10 the fire-control mechanism and the breechclosing mechanism as in my application Serial No. 729,052 filed June 5, 1934 which has eventuated into Patent No. 2,053,489 granted September 8, 1936, of which this is a division.
15 Objects of the invention are to provide improved means for holding the frame on the receiver and an improved co-operative relationship between the mechanisms carried in the receiver and frame respectively. To this end I 20 provide a catch in an interior recess in the frame for detachably locking the frame on the receiver, together with an actuator accessible from the exterior of the firearm for unlocking the frame. Preferably the catch is pivoted on the 25 same pin as the trigger and is spring-pressed into the aforesaid opening in the bottom of the receiver. The actuator is preferably in the form of a plunger extending to the opposite side of the firearmto the top when the frame is slid- 30 ably interfitted with the lower side of the receiver.
For the purpose of illustration a typical em bodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which,

40 The particular embodiment of the invention chosen for the purpose of illustration comprises a receiver IN, a bolt I98 movable back and forth in the receiver, a recoil spring 36, and a frame I05 detachably connected to the under side of 45 the receiver by means of inwardly extending lips I which slide in grooves in the sides of the receiver H, the frame sliding onto the receiver from the rear and being held in normal position by means of a catch 2 pivoted in an interior 50 recess 8 on the frame by means of a pin 3 and urged to latching position by spring 4. To release the frame from the receiver the catch 2 is swung in a clockwise direction (Fig. 2) by means of a plunger 5 which is prevented from 55 dropping out when the gun is inverted by means of a pin 6 extending through a recess 1 in the side of the plunger. The mechanism for automatically locking the bolt in breech-closing ponected to the trigger at I2.
The trigger I is mounted at the center of the pin 3 and the left-hand end of the catch 2 is bifurcated to straddle the trigger as shown in Fig. 1
In sliding the frame forwardly on the receiver the catch 2 automatically snaps into the locking position shown in Fig. 2 when the stock portion of the frame abuts the rear end of the receiver. To detach the frame from the receiver the plunger is depressed until the catch 2 clears the rear end 9 of the receiver.
It should be understood that the present disclosure is for the purpose of illustration only and that this invention includes all modifications and equivalents which fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A firearm comprising a receiver having a forwardly facing abutment therein and having a rear face, a frame slidably mounted under the receiver with a portion seating against said face, said portion having an opening extending therethrough from top to bottom, said frame having a recess opposite said abutment, a pivot pin extending crosswise of said recess in advance of said abutment, a catch having its for ward end pivoted on said pin and having a shoulder intermediate its ends for engagement with said abutment and having its rearward end in line with said opening, and a push plunger extending through said opening for disengaging the catch from the abutment.
2. A firearm comprising a receiver having a forwardly facing abutment therein and having a rear face, a frame slidably mounted under the receiver with a portion seating against said face, said portion having an opening extending therethrough from top to bottom, said frame having a recess opposite said abutment, a pivot pin extending crosswise of said recess in advance of said abutment, a trigger pivoted on said pin, a catch having its forward end pivoted on said pin and having a shoulder intermediate its ends for engagement with said abutment and having its rearward end in line with said opening, the catch being bifurcated to straddle said trigger, and a push plunger extending through said opening for disengaging the catch from the abutment.
