Description
W--WARREN lPlow.
Patented July 20,1858.
' W Th1 ass-as.
W Mo/M UNITED STATES W. WARREN, OF PENN YAN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 20,968, dated July 20, 1858.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, WALTER WARREN, of Penn Yan, in the county of Yates and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a landside elevation of the plow. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the beam. Fig. 3 is a side view of the mold-board.
A, Fig. 1, is the beam with the other parts of the plow attached.
B, Fig. l, is the mold-board, of the ordinary shape on the furrow side except at the place of union with the beam A and share D. At the forward part of B, Fig. 3, is the landside portion of the same, and designated by E, Fig. 1, and E and F, Fig. 3. At the inner angle formed by these parts is the place for the beam A, whiohis fitted at tbefrontedge to suit the shape of this angle.
The beam is made to receive the landside part of the mold-board (designated by E and F, Fig. 3,) into the place designated by G, Fig. 2. When properly made the landside surfaces of each will be on one plane, abor e the landside C, Fig. 1. The part of the mold-board designated by E and F is thicker at E than at F. The part F is made to receive the forward*end of the landside O, the outersurface of which is on the same plane above described. H, Fig. 2, is the lowerpartof B,andis fitted to receivethelandside piece 0, which has a flange at the lower edge of the same.
The share I), Fig. l, is fitted to the mold board only, which gives ita firm and unalterable place, and rendersit easily kept tight and in position.
The beam and mold-board are held together by bolts passing through the parts E and F and the part G. The bolts hold the parts together, but are not needed to resist the draft applied to the beam. The peculiar joint of these parts increases the firmness as the draft is increased.
I I are the handles, of the ordinary construction. The right one is attached to B, the left one to the hind part of the beam A, which is extended upward to receive and support the handle, as represented in Fig. 1.
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The within-described arrangement of beam A and its portion G with the mold-board B and its landside portions E F, the whole being constructed as and for the purpose set forth.
WALTER WARREN. Witnesses:
