This invention relates to a device on combing machines for attaching the one on the other the drawn off slivers, in which the supplying device is driven continuously and a pair of rollers arranged behind the device is driven periodically in the same direction of rotation.
The invention consists in a special arrange ment permitting to drive intermittently this pair of rollers in the simplest manner. With this object in view the pair. of rollers is mounted on an oscillatable lever in such a manner that during the to and fro oscillation of the lever the drive of the pair of rollers is alternately established and interrupted. By this arrangement the removing of the slivers supplied by the travelling belt is facilitated in the driving position owing to the position of the top roller closer to the travelling belt.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 shows the device in the position prior to the taking over of a sliver supplied by the drawing-off device.
Fig. 2 shows the position in which the friction wheels are separated.
Fig. 3 shows how the sliver hanging out from between the oscillatable rollers is placed on a guide plate.
Fig. 4 shows how a fresh sliver is drawn off together with the previously combed sliver and attached to the same.
Above one end of an endless travelling belt a a drawing off cylinder 1) is arranged. The travelling belt is conducted at this end so that a kind of lip c is formed. The travelling belt a is permanently driven in the same direction. The slivers are drawn off by these means in the usual manner from the feeding device (not shown) and conveyed.
On the discharging side of the drawing-off device two rollers 11 and e are mounted in a support g which is oscillatable about the axle of roller 6 and has a lever-like extension 1. The support 9 is oscillated to and fro at certain intervals by suitable means so that a friction wheel 'm on the axle of the top roller d can alternately come into and out of touch with a friction wheel n keyed on the driving axle of the travelling belt a.
Before a sliveri (Fig. 1) supplied by the drawing-off device is drawn off, a support 1, g of the rollers d, e is oscillated so that the friction wheel comes to bear against the friction wheel 12. The
rollers are thus driven until a certain length of the sliver has been drawn between the same. The extension I is then oscillated to separate the friction wheels m, n (Fig. 2). The rollers d, e are not driven and are therefore at standstill and 5 the portion of the sliver near the roller is laid owing to the continuing movement of the travelling belt upon the plate It, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The sliver forms first a kind of loop and as soon as' its out-hanging portion is laid com- 10' pletely upon the plate h, the sliver presses owing to its elasticity against the travelling belt. As the travelling belt possesses a greater friction coefiicient than the smooth surface of plate It the sliver is pulled down and stretched so that curl 15 formation is avoided. When this procedure is terminated the roller (1 together with friction wheel m is oscillated and the friction wheel m presses against friction wheel 11. so that the next following sliver conveyed by the travelling belt 20 is gripped by the rollers d and e and drawn off together with the preceding sliver, the two slivers being attached the one on the other (Fig. 4). As shown in Figs. 1 and 4 the top roller d is closer to the travelling belt a in the driven position whereby the drawing-off of the sliver from the belt is facilitated. In this position of the device the top roller stands relative to the lower roller e so that the actually discharged sliver is downwardly deflected by the top roller and consequently securely gripped by the rollers d and e.
In order to instantaneously stop the pairs of rollers as soon as the disengaging begins, a brake device and the like may be connected with the support 9 and lever J to automatically prevent rotation of the rollers.
Instead of friction wheels m, n gear wheels or other driving means may be employed.
I claim:
1. A device for attaching the one on the other the drawn-off slivers, comprising in combination a travelling belt conveying the slivers, a driving roller in the discharge end of said travelling belt, a guide block in the opposite end of said travelling belt, a friction Wheel on an axle of said driving roller outside said belt, a support oscillatably mounted in front of the discharge side of said travelling belt, a pair of drawing off rollers rotatably mounted in said support, and a friction wheel on the axle of the top drawing off roller adapted to be brought alternately in and out of contact with said friction wheel on the axle of said driving roller.

3. A device as specified in claim 1, comprising in combination with the travelling belt the oscillatable support, a guide plate between said travelling belt and said support adapted to guide the downwardly hanging portion of the sliver gripped by said rollers and to press it slightly against KARL JOSEF SCHMITI.
