Description
Aug. 3, 1937. s. B. KLAHN CHECK BOOK COVER Filed Aug. 5, 1935 ZZ //\/l/E/\/7UR 5.15. KLAHN .En
Patented Aug. 3, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates generally to book covers, and particularly to a check book cover.
The main object of this invention is the provision of a new form of check book cover in which the cover is made of one piece, which is so shaped and joined as to form a cover which is inexpensive to manufacture and which will effectively hold a pad of check blanks as well as a pass book.
The second object is the construction of a check book cover from which all the seams and board fillers are eliminated for the purpose of producing a durable, neat appearing book which is not cumbersome.
These and other objects are accomplished in the manner set forth in the following specification as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan of the blank from which the book cover is made.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section taken along the line 22 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 1, but showing the first flap turned down.
Fig. 4 is a View similar to Fig. 3, but showing the side flaps turned in.
Fig. 5 is a section taken along the line 5-5 in Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing the closed book.
Similar numbers of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring in detail tothe drawing, there is shown in Fig. 1 a blank constituting the front II], the back II, which is separated from the front 5 ID by a crease I2, and a front flap I3, which is separated from the back I I by a crease I4. From the opposite end of the front I0 extends the pocket flap I5, whose edge I6 is tapered, as shown in Fig. 2.
Side flaps IT project from opposite sides of the front Ill. The pocket flap I5 is provided with cut-out portions I8 which extend to the shoulder I9. The crease 20 between the front I0 and the pocket flap I5 is substantially midway between 4.5 the shoulder I9 and the edge 2I of its adjacent flap II. A snap fastener 22 is placed on the rear side of the front I0 and a corresponding fastem'ng unit 23 is placed on the front flap I3.
In assembling this device, the pocket flap I5 is turned in along the crease .20, as shown in Fig.
3, and adhesive is applied to the surface 24 while a gummed strip 25 is placed against the member I5, as shown in Fig. 3, after which the side flaps ll are brought to the position shown in 5 Fig. 4, causing the edges 26 to be held together while the edges 21 are secured to the surface 24 forming thereby two pockets, the first one between the fiap I1 and the pocket flap I5 into which is placed a tongue 28 of the check book 29. 10 The second pocket lies between the pocket flap I5 and the front I0, and it is into this pocket that the pass book 30 may be placed.
It can be seen from the foregoing that by this construction all sewing and board filler is disl5 pensed with, and by the use of a suitable material such as a waterproof composition, both the check book and pass book are fully protected in the neatest possible manner and at a relatively small expense. 20
While I have thus illustrated and described my invention, it is not my intention to be limited to the precise shape and construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but I do intend to cover all such forms and modifications thereof 25 that fall fairly within the appended claim.
I claim:
A check book cover consisting of an elongated strip of flexible material of single thickness, the lateral edges of which are parallel, said strip 30 having transverse creases formed therein dividing the strip successively into a pocket flap, back, front, and front flap sections, the front and back sections being substantially equal in length, said back section having side flaps projecting laterally therefrom, the ends of said side flaps which are adjacent to the pocket flap crease are spaced therefrom, said pocket flap section being offset at each side along that portion of its length extending from its outermost end to a 40 point which is equidistant from the pocket flap crease with the adjacent ends of the side flaps, the side flaps when folded to enclose the offset portion of the pocket flap being adapted to receive means for uniting the outermost ends of said side flaps and means for securing said front flap against the outside of said back.
SIDNEY B. KLAHN.
