Description

P. GILBERT FIT FORM DRIER Filed March a, 1934 Patented July 27, 1937 UNITED STTES FIT FORM DRIER Paul Gilbert,
Application March 8,
1 Claim.
The invention relates to forms used for holding ladies dresses and the like, after being cleaned to prevent shrinking of the garment while drying, being particularly adapted for use 5 by steam cleaners, and has for its object the provision of a form adjustable to accommodate the device for different sizes of garments, and also arranged to adjust the positions of the sleeves to hold them in proper shape while drying, the sleeves being also adjustable in size to accommodate the devices for use on different sizes of sleeves.
The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front view in elevation of the improved fit form drier,
and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail View on an enlarged scale, shown in section, of one of the arm forms and its connection with the body portion.
In the drawing similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The fit form drier illustrated in the drawing has a body portion I comprising two sections 2 and 3, preferably made of wood or other suitable material, the section 3 having pins 4 secured thereto, and slidably engaging openings 5 in the section 3 so as to provide for adjustment of sections on one another to accommodate the body portion to garments of different sizes. 6 indicates screw shafts, preferably made of wood, rotatably mounted in sections 2 and held in position therein by means of bearing blocks I, preferably made of wood and engaging the reduced ends 8 on the shafts 6, said blocks being secured in recesses 9. Shafts 6 threadedly engage nuts I secured in the section 3 so that when the shafts 6 are rotated it will be apparent that the sections 2 and 3 will be adjusted relatively to one another to accommodate the body portion to garments of difierent sizes as stated.
II indicates supporting members secured to each of the sections 2 and 3, and combining to support the body I in upright position. I2 indicates arm members that are rotatably mounted on the body portion l by means of pins I3. Each of the arm members I2 consists of sections I4 and I hingedly connected together intermediate of Figure 2 is a central vertical sectional View,

their ends as shown at l6. Sections I4 and I5 are spaced at their upper or shoulder ends and normally held in engagement with one another by means of expansible springs I'I. Section I4 is provided with a tapered recess l8, and I9 indicates a nut engaging in, the recess and engaged by the threaded shaft 20 rotatably mounted in said sections It, as shown at 2 I, and in an elongated opening 22 in a lateral extension 23 on the lower end of the section I5. By this construction it is apparent that section I4 is rockably mounted on part I5. To hold the shaft 20 in the pocket 2 i, said shaft is provided with a circumferential groove 24 to receive a set screw 25.
It will be apparent that the adj ustability of the parts of the form, as hereinbefore described, makes the device so that it may be accommodated to use with different sized garments, the garment being placed upon the form after cleaning, and the adjustment of the arm members I2 accommodating the arm members to different sizes of sleeves, and the rotatable movement of the arm members I2 on the body portion permitting movement of the sleeves relatively to the body portion I to hold the sleeves. in proper shape while drying.
To prevent rust or other metal stains in the garment all parts of the drier, except the hinges I6 and springs H, are preferably made of wood or other fibrous material.
What is claimed is- A fit form drier, comprising a body portion having longitudinally separable sections, dowel pins secured to one of said sections, the other section being provided with openings receiving said dowel pins, means for connecting and adjusting the sections relatively to one another comprising screw shafts rotatably mounted in said sections, nuts mounted in one section and engaging one of the end portions of said screw shafts, the other section provided with recesses receiving the other ends of said screw shafts, the last men,- tioned ends of the screw shafts being provided with reduced portions, bearing blocks in said recesses and engaging said reduced ends, and each of said sections having an individual supporting member secured thereto, the supporting members combining to hold the body in upright position and movable with said sections into adjusted positions corresponding to the adjusted positions of the sections to which secured.
PAUL GILBERT.
