Description
W. D. MOGLOGHLON.
Watch-Pendant.
No. 208,480. Patented Oct. 1, 1878.
j7l0672 for N4 PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON, D c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
YVILLIAM D. MOGLOGHLON, OF LONDON, ONTARIO, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WATCH-PENDANTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,480, dated October 1, 1878 application filed January 9, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM D. MOGLOGH- LON, of the city of London, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stem-Windin g Watches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to an improved method of fastening the pendant-bows of stem-winding watches. Heretofore they have been attached by being merely sprung on the sides of the pendant-bow, and were liable to become detached at any moment.
My invention consists of inserting a small plate or nut in the pendant on each side, and screws or pins passing through the lower ends of the bow and through the pendant are secured to the nuts or plates on the inside.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of the pendant and bow with attaching-screws. Fig. 2 is a section of same. Fig. 3 is a drawing of nut and screw. Fig. 4 shows the pin used for the same purpose.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the pendant; B, the pendantbow, and O the stem-winder passing through pendant. D D are the nuts, sufiiciently small to be inside the pendant--one on each side of the winder-without interfering with the latter;
and E E are the small screws which pass clear through the lower ends of the bow B, and through the sides of the pendant A, and are secured to the said nuts.
It will readily be seen that when the bow is thus secured it is prevented from slipping off, as it so frequently does in other stem-winding watches when the ends of bow are merely sprung on the pendant.
In place of using a nut, D, and screw E, pins shaped as shown, Fig. 4, may be used. These are slipped inside the pendant, and the shanks F project through orifices in sides and pass through the ends of bow in precisely the same manner as with the screw.
The above-described pins are held in their proper position in securing the pendant-bow by the winder O, or its equivalent.
1 claim as my invention As a new device for securing the bows to the pendants of stem-windin g watches, the screws E or pins F, passing through the lower ends of said bows, and secured to nut D or head G, contained in the interior of pendant, and retained in position by the winder O, lying between them,-substantial1y as shown and de scribed, and for the purpose set forth.
V. D. MOGLOGHLON.
