Application July 8, 1936, Serial No. 89,605
1 Claim.
My invention relates to animprovement in overalls.
An object of the invention relates to an improved design in the bib for an overall. The bib for the overall is notched at its upper side thereby forming a V-shaped out out portion.
A further object of the invention is to provide a V-shaped cut out portion in the upper side of the bib which will provide a more convenient garment for working men and also a more attractive overall.
A further object is the provision of a novel arrangement of pockets in combination with the V- shaped cut out portion of the bib.
Other and further objects will hereinafter appear from a detailed description of the invention.
Figure 1 is a front view of the upper portion of the overall and especially showing the improved bib of my invention.
Figure 215 a view taken on line 2-2 of'Figure 1. V
Figure 3 is a rear view of the bib portion of the overalls, disclosing the reinforcing strips.
Referring in detail to the drawing, I 0 represents the overall, and I2 indicates the overall legs which are of ordinary construction. The bib is referred to by the numeral I4. The bib I4 is secured to the ordinary shoulder straps I6 by securing means H. The bib l4 has a cut out or V-shaped portion 18 on its upper side.
'The V-shaped cut out portion I8 of the bib I4 is adapted to make the overall more convenient for the wearer, when the person wearing the garment bends over. That is, when the person wearing the overall bends over or otherwise stretches the garment, the upper portion of the bib [4 will not rub or chafe the neck of the wearer as the V-shaped portion l8 allows space for the garment as it pulls up. The V-shaped cut out portion I8 is cut from near the sides 20 of the bib l4. A reinforcing strip 2| is secured to the sides of the bib 20, and also a reinforcing strip 22 is secured to the edges 26 and 28 of the V-shaped cut out portion l8 of the bib l4. The reinforcing strips 2| and 22 are adapted to make the garment neater and also more enduring.
The pockets 24 and 25 are secured on the bib and are adapted to open on the edges 26 and 28 respectively of the V-shaped out out portion l8 of the bib l4. The pockets 24 and 25 are sewed on the bib l4 at an oblique angle to the bottom portion of the bib l4. The pockets 24 and 25 are adapted to carry desirable contents. Pocket 24 has a flap 30 which is for closing the pocket. The flap 30 is secured to pocket 24 by a button 32 or other appropriate means. When the pockets are placed on the bib l4 so that their openings are adjacent to the edges of the V- shaped cut out portion I 8, the contents of the pockets 24 and 25 are easily and more conveniently reached than on overallswhich have the pockets otherwise secured to the bib. Further the contents of the pockets 24 and 25 are not lost so readily when they are secured at an oblique angle to the bottom of the blb I4.
Modifications and changes of the invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim. 1
What I claim as new is:
A garment comprising a pair of overalls lncluding a bib portion adapted to cover the chest of the wearer, said bib portion having its upper portion cut away so as to provide a V-shaped neck opening, a pocket secured to the bib on each side thereof and having its openings registering with the adjacent edges of the V-shaped opening, the said pockets being secured to the bib at an oblique angle to the vertical median line, and one of the said pockets being provided with a flap for closing its opening.
FRED V. LUCAS.
