1 Claim.

The present invention relates to a waterproof container and has particular reference to a containerespecially adapted to be worn by bathers wherein articles such as smoking appliances, jewelry, or any other article, may be carried in a dry or waterproof condition.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a container especially adapted for articles of this class which may be readily secured to the wearing apparel of the user, and which may be opened and closed with facility.

A still further important object of the invention will be found to reside in the novel manner in which the container'may be secured to, or quickly detached-from the wearing apparel.

' 'Ihe present invention contemplates the provision of a Asubstantially rectangular shaped container which may be constructed of metal and lined with rubber or the like, or if so desired, constructed of a' combination material. The lower portion of the' containeris provided with an annular flange adapted to receive the edge of a rubber lined cover in a novel manner to effect a. perfect seal therebetweenand prevent the en-f trance of moisture or water into the container. The cover 'is provided with resiliently mounted catches which engage the annular flange on the upper portion of the container, and the container is adapted to be secured to the wearing apparel of the user,` such as a belt or the like in a novel manner.

The container includes a substanis constructed of metal, or which if so desired may be constructed from a composition material such as bakelite or the like. The upper edge of the bottom portion l2 is offset laterally and directed upwardly defining an annular flange; I4. Similarly on the inside of the bottom I2 on the upper edge there is provided an inwardly directed flange I6 which extends above the upper edge of the outer flange I4 vdefining an annular channel or groove in the bottom of which there is placed a rubber gasket I8. The inside of the bottom I2 of the container, as clearly illustrated in Figure l, is lined with rubber which extends to the underneath side of the inner flange I6.

Similarly, the lid or top 24 is of general rectangular shape and is constructed of metal, or if so desired, of a composition material andis providedon its inside with a rubber lining 26,. As clearly illustratedv in Figures 2 and 3, the free edge of the cover or lid 24 is adapted to rest in the annular groove defined by the flanges I4 andv I6 and upon the rubber gasket I8 therein. It is to be noted in this connection that the inner ange I6 snugly engages and abuts the rubber lining 26 on the inside of the cover to the end that there is provided in combination with the gasket I8 a very snug t and consequently a waterproof sealed joint.

On oppositely disposed ends of the cover 24,

there are pivotally mounted, hooks or catches 32. Normally, the lower free ends of the hooks 32 are directed inwardly toward the sides or ends of the cover by means of the resilient springs 34 which engage the inner upper end or sides of the catches.

Particular attention is invited to the manner in which the lower portion of the catches are Icon` l .structed to the end that upon the placing of the cover in its closing position, the rounded edge portion of the hooked ends of the catch ride upon the yupper edge of the flange I4 and are directed downwardly with the movement 'of the cover in that direction until the hooked portions of the catches are forced into gripping engage- 'ment with the lower edge of the flange I4, thereby securing the cover in position on the lower portion of the container, and at the same time depressing the lower edge of the cover into the gasket Il to the end that a perfect seal between the cover and the lower portion is formed.

extending longitudinally thereof there is secured by soldering, welding, or the like, a cup-shaped female attaching member 34. As clearly illustrated, adjacent the ends of the female attaching member 34 and spaced therefrom are apertures 36 which merge into longitudinally extending slots 38 terminating short of the ends of the device. As previously mentioned, to the belt of the user or wearer of the device,- there is secured a substantially resilient rectangular shaped male attaching plate 40 having spaced, laterally extending prongs 42 which extend through the belt and are clamped thereto as illustrated in Figure 6.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:-

A moisture proof container comprising a bottom portion having annular vspaced flanges on the upper edge Ithereof deilning an annular channel, the outer flange being shorter than the inner ange, a gasket in said channel, a cover, a lining of moisture proof material on the inside of said l cover, the inner side of said lining of said cover being adapted to snugly 'embrace the outside of the inner flange and the lower portion of said a shape andsize vto accommodate not only a .complete package of cigarettes if so desired, but
