Description
UNITED BATES .e'rnr FFIGEO ELIJAH ANDERSON, OF MOUNT PLEASANT, IOWVA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOG-CHOLERA COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,47 L'daicd August 27, 1878; application filed March 6, 1878. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH ANDERSON, of Mount Pleasant, in the county of Henry and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful article or compound for the prevention and cure of cholera in hogs and chickens; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the article and ingredients of which it is composed and compounded, which will enable others to make, compound, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying formula and ingredients.
This invention has relation to that class of medical compounds employed in the cure and prevention of cholera in hogs and chickens; and it consists ofa mixture of the following-named ingredients, in the proportions and in the manner hereinafter fully set forth.
In com poundin gthe mixture, take equal parts of fenugreek, black antimony, saltpeter, resin, sulphur, ginger, cream-tartar, rattle-weed root, and charcoal. Then take one-half the amount, in weight, of either of the above-enumerated articles in cayenne pepper and an amount of pulverized poke-root, equaling the amount of cayenne pepper, and mix together in a dry and pulverized condition, forming a powder composed of the several ingredients before enumerated.
This compound is to be administered to hogs in ground feed, half of a table-spoonful to each hog once or twice a day. In extreme cases the dose should be increased to one table-spoonful. When improvement takes place the dose should be reduced gradually until it is no longer necessary to administer it.
For chickens, one table-spoonful mixed with food for ten chickens would be an appropriate dose. In severe cases, either for hogs or chickens, where they refuse or are unable to partake of their food, the powder should be forced into their mouths.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim. as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A new and useful medical compound consistin g of fenugreek, black antimony, salt-- peter, resin, sulphur, ginger, cream-tartar, rat-- tle-weed root, charcoal, cayenne pepper, and pulverized poke-root, in the proportions and for the purposes specified.
ELIJAH ANDERSON.
