Description
V W. M. OARRIKER. Corn-Planter and Check-Row Marker No. 207,250. Patnted ug. 2061878.
INVENTOR @Wg WITNESS s UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
WILLIAM M. GARRIKER, OF IRVING, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-PLANTER AND CHECK-ROW MARKER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,250, dated August .20, 1878; application filed Julie 15, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAIVI M. GARRIKER, of Irving, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Corn-Planter and Check-Row Marker; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to theannexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my corn planter and check-row marker, and Fig. 2 is a detail attachment for corn-planters, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
The frame of my check-row attachment consists of two parallel side bars, AA, connected by a cross-bar, B, and strengthened by means of inclined braces O G. The front ends of the side bars, A A, are intended to be bolted on the axle of the corn-planter, and the entire check-rowcr held stationary thereon while in use.
D represents a shaft in the front part of the check-rower, which shaft is to be rotated by suitable gear-wheels directly from the axle of the planter. On the shaftD is secured a pulley or sprocket-wheel, d, which, by a crossed belt or chain, a, is connected with a similar pulley or sprocket wheel, I), on a shaft, F, which has its bearings in the rear ends. of the side bars, A A. 7
On each end of the shaft F is secured a cross bar or head, Gr, each end of which is slotted, and has a marker, I, pivoted therein. The two markers in each head are held in proper position by means of a spring, h, secured on the head, and its ends fitting between pins 13 i on the markers. These markers work in rear of the planter-wheels, and by means of the joints and springs they will yield or give to any side pressure in either direction and return to their proper position.
H H are pointers, which are to show when the seed is being accurately dropped. They point from the drivers seat toward thelmarks in the rows just planted, and when the pointers point toward the marks in the other rows the planter should drop.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the frame A B O, shaft D, with wheel d, chain a, shaft F, with wheel b and slotted heads G, and pivoted markers I, with springs h, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM M. GARRIKER.
Witnesses:
