Description

Jan. 12, 1937. L. CRISTOFANETTI BRASSIERE CGMPOSED OF TWO INDEPENDENT Filed June 28, 1955 Patented Jan. 12, 1937 UNITED STATES ,BRASSIERE COMPOSED OF TWO INDEPENDENT PocKE'rs Lucia Cristofanetti, Paris, France Application June 28, 1935, Serial No. 28,800
In France August 23, 1934 2 Claims.
This invention relates to brassieres and the like and to a method of making the same.
The main object of the present invention is to provide a new model brassire in which the pockets destined to uplift the bust are independent from one another and each of which is kept in place by a set of straps one of which is an elastic band.
Brassieresnow sold in the trade are in one part only, and thereby hinder considerably the movements of the waist and arms, and in particular movements executed during gymnastics and physical exercises, in which case they often tear.
15 The purpose of the invention is to permit the making of a brassiere molding the bust perfectly, and efiicaciously uplifting it without causing any discomfort in movements, and which will not tear. This purpose is accomplished by making 20 the pockets molding the bust independent from one another, and providing each of the pockets with shoulder straps for adjusting the brassire.
Another object of the invention is to provide a method of cutting the fabric whereby the brassiere may be made rapidly and economically without any waste.
In the annexed drawing, given as an example, a preferred embodiment of the present invention is represented as follows:
Fig. 1 shows the design of the brassiere in place, one of the pockets being represented by a full line, the other by a dotted line.
Fig. 2 is a back view of the person wearing the brassire;
35 Fig. 3 shows the cuttingof the fabric for the making of the brassire.
Figures 1 and 2 show the waist of the woman wearing the brassiere made of two pockets.
The left part alone of the brassiere is repre- 49 sented in full line; the right part in dotted line is in every way similar.
This left part is formed by a pocket made of appropriate fabric, with three straps 2, 3, and 4, the latter being an elastic band. Strap 3 is sewn or fixed in some other suitable way to strap No. 2 so as to 'form a loop on the shoulder, while the extremity of strap No. 2 remains free to join the extremity of the elastic strap No. 4, which stretches the pocket towards the middle of the bust, passes under the right breast which it supports, winds round the body passing under the right arm and is aiiixed to strap 2 by a snap button 5 or some other fastening means in the middle of the back. The left breast is thus given an uplift. The button 6 of the pocket I is adapted to engage strap 6 of the pocket 1. This pocket I uplifts the right breast and is maintained by straps 8, 9, and Hi; strap i being elastic and re joining strap 8 at i i. It will be seen therefore a:-y, then each half is folded over and sewn together, border [2 alongside border l3. The tab I4 which remains loose-due to the shape of the cutting is utilized as an attachment for the elastic strap 4 (or I0) and straps 2 and 3 (or 8 and 9) may be attached to the corners l5 and I6 of the pocket thus formed.
What I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A brassiere consisting of two separate pieces, each piece comprising a pocket for supporting one of the breasts of the wearer, said pocket having a top portion and two side portions; a strap having one end attached to the upper portion of said pocket and being adapted to pass over the shoulder of the wearer, another strap having one end attached to one of the side portions of said pocket, the second-mentioned strap being elastic, means carried by the opposite ends of said straps for detachably interconnecting said opposite ends, and a third strap having one end connected with the other one of said side portions of the pocket, the opposite end of the last mentioned strap being attached to the first-mentioned strap.
2. A brassiere consisting of two separate pieces, each piece comprising a pocket for suporting one of the breasts of the wearer, said pocket having a top portion, a side portion adapted to be situated in the middle of the chest of the wearer, and another side portion adapted to be situated at the side of the wearer, a strap having one end attached to the upper portion of said pocket and being adapted to pass over the shoulder of the wearer, another strap having one end attached to the first-mentioned side portion of the pocket, the second-mentioned strap being elastic, means carried by the opposite ends of .said straps for detachably interconnecting said opposite ends, the last-mentioned strap being adapted to pass under the other breast of the wearer to uplift the same, the two straps extending diagonally across the back of the wearer, and a third strap having one end connected with the second-mentioned side portion of the pocket, the opposite end of the last-mentioned strap being attached to the firstmentioned strap.
