Description

- Jan. 5 1937. c. A. MARIEN HOLDER FOR PAPER MATCH FOLDERS Filed F'eb. 9, 1935 /N VEN roe.
Patented Jan. 5, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
My invention has relation to improvements in holders for paper match folders and it consists in the novel features of construction more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claims.
The object of the invention is to provide a holder that may be applied to or made a part of an ash tray, in which holder is embodied a clip or a pair of clips for receiving paper match folders or packets.
A further object of the invention is to construct said holder in a simple manner so that it may be cheaply manufactured, and at the same time embodying features that will insure an effective grip on the match packet. The manner of accomplishing these objects will be better apparent from a detailed description of the invention in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of an ash tray embodying my improved holder, in one of the clips of which is disposed a match packet; Fig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal section through the holder taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the holder; Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and Figs. 5 and 6 are end elevations of modified forms of the invention showing the holder provided with a suitable spring clip whereby it may be secured to ash trays equipped with means for holding match boxes.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the typical form of ash tray, inside the bottom a; of which is suitably secured in any desirable manner a pedestal I for carrying my improved match packet holder H. In the present instance, the holder comprises two opposed clips 2, 2 stamped in rectangular shape from sheet metal, each of said clips having a vertically disposed slot 3 dividing the clip into a narrow section 4 and a comparatively wide section 5, the narrow section 4 of which terminates in an outwardly presented marginal flange 6 spaced from the body of the section 4 so as to provide a channel 1.
The customary packet of matches P includes a cover comprising a striking strip 8; between which and the back 9 the matches I0 are secured, the front of said cover I I being insertable in the customary manner between the base of the matches and the striking strip 8. When the (Cl. 20G-31) packet is to be inserted in my improved holder H the front I I of said cover is folded back (as shown in Fig. 1) and slipped over the Wide section 5 of the clip, through the slot 3 and on the outside of the narrow section 4 while the part of the packet P, including the striking strip 8, is inserted in the channel 1. Thus, the match packet is securely held by the clip 2 with the matches I0 exposed so that a match may be torn from the packet and drawn across the striking strip 8 which is also exposed.
By providing the holder H with spring clips instead of the pedestal I the holder may be applied to present forms of ash trays, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.' In Fig. 5 I show an ash tray having a boss I2 for the purpose of receiving a match box (not shown) to which my improved holder is clamped by means of a spring clamp I3 secured to the bottom of the holder H.
In Fig. 6 I show a slightly different arrangement in the shape of a socket I4 for receiving a box of matches to which my improved holder H may be clamped by means of a spring clamp I5 which exerts tension outwardly to engage opposite surfaces in the socket I4. It is quite obvious that other forms of securing means may be provided for the holder H whereby it may be adapted t0 any form of ash tray now in use.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A holder for match folders comprising a support, a pair of clip plates fixed in spaced relation to said support, corresponding edges on opposite sides of said plates having outwardly presented flanges to form channels, and each of said plates having a slot open at the top of the plate an-d parallel to the adjacent channel.
2. A holder for match folders comprising a support, a pair of clip plates fixed in spaced relation to said support, corresponding edges on opposite sides of said plates having outwardly presented anges to form channels, each plate having a slot open at the top of the plate and parallel to the adjacent channel, said slots dividing the plates each into two sections of unequal width, the narrower section being contiguous the channel of the plate and the wider section lying in a plane spaced outwardly slightly from that of the narrower section.
