This invention relates to devices for cooling bottles by means of freezing salts, and is an improvement in or modication of the invention described in the specification of Letters Patent No.
|lihe device according to the said parent specification comprises a receptacle which is designed to be the cooling vessel for receiving the salt solution as obtained byv a predetermined amount of freezing salts and for receiving the article to be cooled, its dimensions being such that its internal volume approximatively is equal to the sum of the volumes of the article to be cooled, and of the salt solution required for the cooling. Hence,
in carrying out the invention it is necessary to provide each container of vspecific dimensions appropriate to the particular article to be cooled therein.
The present improvements aim at the special purpose of cooling the various types of bott-led drinks and simplify the equipment as required for the various sizes of bottles, by providing an equipment comprising a plurality of containers each adapted for use in a manner corresponding to that of the single container according to the parent specication, and having respective cooling capacities so related to each other that the equipment is suitable for a given range of articles appropriate for most practical purposes. It is intended that the containers shall be stored one within another, and
serve alsobut not necessarily-for storing a plurality of units of dry salts, these units being related to the dimensions of the containers so that one or a given plurality of units will provide the proper cooling capacity for one of the containers. A
As the invention is particularly applicable to the purpose of cooling bottled drinks, it is hereinafter described with reference to a constructional form comprising two containers respectively adapted for the cooling of quart bottles and smaller bottles, an equipment of this capacity having been found to satisfy a large range of practical requirements. The said constructional form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in a central vertical section showing the equipment assembledv for storage.
According to the constructional form of the invention illustrated, the larger container A is of.
suitable size for the cooling of a quart bottle, and its lid 4 constitutes the measure for the quantity of water required for two units of the salt. The
5 smaller container B which is stored within the larger container A is of a size appropriate to the cooling of smaller bottles, and its lid 5--which is not necessarily required-may constitute the measure for the quantity of water required for one unit of the salts. The equipment is completed by units l of the saltsstored within the container B. These units may be separated from each other by any convenient form of packing, e. g. metal foils 2, and may be held together by a common envelope with an outside lining 3 of 10 paraiiine or wax for protection against moisture. The units are so designed, that one unit constitutes the appropriate quantity for use with the smaller container B, while two units are required with the larger container A. l5
In using the equipment, if a quart bottle is to be cooled the container B is removed, two units of the freezing salts are placed within the container A and the appropriate quantity of water added, using the lid 4 as a measure. The bot- 20 tle to be cooled can now be placed in the brin within the container.
If a smaller bottle than a quart bottle is to be cooled the smaller container B is used with one unit of salt and the corresponding quantity of 25 water. When so used the container B need not be taken out of the container A, which provides insulation between the atmosphere and the inner container. s
From the above it will be understood that the 30 container B is designed for half the cooling capacity of the container A. As a specific example it might be stated that when nitrate of ammonia is used as the freezing salt in this equipment an appropriate unit of the said salt consists of 350 35 gr. thereof; the container A may be of cylindrical form having inside diameter larger than mm., e. g. mm. and a height of approximately 30 cm., while the corresponding dimensions of the container B'would be: inside diameter small- 40 er than 100 mm., e. g. 90 mm., and a height of apy proximately 25 ern.l
The specific form and dimensions above given are chosen as illustrativeof a convenient and generally useful embodiment`of the invention, 45 but it will be understood that the form and dimensions may be varied without departing from the invention to suit particular requirements as to the range of articles to b'e cooled, and the particularsalts to be employed for the cooling. 50
For example, a third container smaller than the container B could be added to the equipment, this third container being of half the freezing capacity of the container B, so that provision would thus be made for very small bottles.
It will be advantageous to supply with the equipment reiills of freezing salt packed in unit weights in a separate container preferably accommodating a dozen unit Weights, so that the equipment can be repeatedly used with the rells.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
A device for cooling bottles comprising a plurality of containers adapted to be stored one within another, including a plurality of units of dry freezing salt stored in the inner container,
each of said units consisting of the quantity appropriate for the smallest container.
