Description
. G. 1). LUOE, Fibre-Cleaning Machine.
Patented June18, 1878.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
GEORGE D. LUOE, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO 0. J. FLAGG, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIBER-CLEANING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,906, dated June 18, 1878; application filed March 2, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. LUoE, of the city of New Orleans, in the parish of Urleans, State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fiber-Gleaning Machines, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a plan, Fig. 3 is an end view of the toothed roller, showing slant of the teeth.
The object of my invention is to clean fiber, which I propose to do by the use of a roller having thereon slanting or curved teeth, in
the same, and, being pressed firmly against it by the springs E, it is then caught by the iron rollers (l O, which move at twice the speed of the toothed roller D, thereby drawing out or straightening the fiber. It is then combed from the rollers by the toothed drum B. The teeth on roller D are slightly curved or slanting to facilitate their cleaning. The springs yield independently of one another, so as to adapt themselves to the different thicknesses of material at different points alongthe toothed roller D. v
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The roller D, having thereon curved or slanting teeth, in combination with independent springs E and rollers O O, substantially as shown and described.
2. The series of independent springs E, in combination with toothed roller D, substantially as shown and described.
GEO. D. LUGE.
Witnesses:
0. J. FLAGG, R. H. OHINN.
