Description
12, 1936. N. s. MURPHY INFANT S NURSING BOTTLE AND NIPPLE HOLDER Filed Oct. 20, 1934 Patented May 12, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE INFANTS NURSING BOTTLE AND NIPPLE HOLDER Nellie Scroble Murphy, Orlando, Fla.
Application October 20, 1934, Serial No. 749,194
1 Claim.
My invention relates to a useful. device for holding an infants nursing bottle and nipple in a manner especially adapted for bottle babies.
nursing attached to a pillow, the side of a crib,
mattress, to hold the bottle in a slanting bed or position and in a manner to accommodate the bottle to the movements of the infant, and desi sued to tle can be readily disengaged for washing filling, without loss of time or difficulty.
and re- No claim is made with reference to the bottle itself or the nipple, but only to the holder herein described, the bottle and nipple being shown to illustrate the operation of the holder.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which like numbers describe like parts.
The invention consists, therefore, in the construction and combination of parts whereby the above and other advantages are attained, all of which will be pointed out in the following description and claim.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is an elevational side drawing is one-half actual size.
Figure 2 is a cross section on the line Fig. 1.
view and the AAof l in the drawing is a rubber nursing nipple. 2 is a spring steel clip to hold the nursing bottle in position and to hold the nipple on the bottle.
3 is a glass nursing bottle. 4 is a cap pressed out of sheet metal. 5 is a steel bar on which a socket H is welded, as are parts 4 and 2.
is a bolt with a butterfly nut. The socket l l fits over post II] which is a steel rod with a steel ball on the top end. Socket ll fits over the steel ball, forming a ball and socket joint. By loosening the bolt l2, the bottle and holder may be turned and set at any angle. 6 is a metal bar with a steel collar welded on one end. This collar has a hole in it and carries a thumb-screw I3. This member 6 'can slide on post is clamped tightly by thumb-screw l3.
l0 and 1 are slight'knobs on clamp-bars '6 and 8. Metal bar 8 and post ID are together, while 9 is an eye of wire welded into bar 8.
A feature of importance is that by loosening the thumb-nut 0n bolt l2, the clamping action 5 of the depending clamp-members H on the ball will be relieved sufliciently to permit the bottle support and its attached parts to be entirely removed from the standard, leaving only the post l0 and its ball projecting above the bed or crib sheet, clamp- members 6, 8 being so arranged that the post I!) may be readily clamped to the edge of the mattress. Also by arranging the ballclamping device at the outer end of the bar 5, said bar 5 and its bottle-engaging devices may be swung .to a position entirely out of the way. Also by using a flanged base cup 4 for the bottom of the bottle and a spring clip 2 opening upwardly, the bottle may be readily snapped into and out of place, and when in place will be held against dislodgment without the use of rings or set-screws or other extraneous devices.
A further feature of importance is the particularly constructed clamp at the bottom of the supporting post [0. It will be observed that this clamp is formed of a pair of elongated bars 5 and 8, one being arranged in a fixed position to the post 10 and the other being adjustably mounted on post In and adapted to slide thereon,
so that these clamp bars can embrace a flexible 30 support, such as a pillow or mattress to support the nursing bottle in a proper position in a bed or crib without danger of upsetting. These clamp bars, being elongated, can easily be forced to considerable distance under and over a pillow or mattress and this will furnish a substantial suport.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and 40 materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed herein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A nursing bottle holder comprising a supporting post provided with a ball at its upper end and with a laterally extending rigid clamping arm at its lower end, a bottle holding cradle consisting of a base bar, a rigid cap secured to the top of and extending upright from one end of said bar and designed to receive and serve as a stop for the bottom of the bottle, a spring grip 55 at the opposite end of said base bar to receive the top part of the bottle, the cap serving. to hold the bottle in fixed relation to said grip, a depending clamp secured to the end of the base bar directly below the cap and adapted to embrace the ball on the upper end of the post, means for adjustably securing said clamp to said ball to thereby hold the cradle in fixed relation to the post with the major portion of .thebottle cradle extending laterally from the post, an adjustable clamping bar mounted on the post and extending parallel with the rigid clamping arm at the bottom of the post, the adjustable clamping bar and the rigid clamping arm and the base bar of the bottle cradle being of substantially the same length and all extending to the same side of the post.
