13 Claims.
The object of our invention is to provide a simple, compact, eillcient, convenient and economical single unit for cooling, treating and dispensing beer for home use.
Our invention consists in providing a temperature-insulated container having a beer coil I mounted therein with cooling means therefor, a receptacle mounted in said container and adapted to receive a carbonic acid gas pressure flask together with means for discharging said carbonic acid gas into a barrel of beer whereby the beer is charged and forced out through said coil for use. Our invention also consists in the construction, combination, location and arrangement of parts as herein set forth and claimed.

In the embodiment of our invention as illustrated and which shows a preferred construction, we provide a container I having double walls 2 and 3 containing mineral wool 4 or other suitable insulating material for the purpose of retaining cold and excluding heat, said container having a lid 5 also provided with double walls 2' and 3' containing mineral wool 4' or other suitable insulating material. The lid is preferably provided with a knob 6 as a convenient handle for placing and removing said lid and also to present an attractive appearance.
A coil tube I is vertically mounted within the container I adjacent the inner wall 3 and extends from the inner end of the outlet or discharge faucet 8 near the top and is connected near the bottom of the container to tap rod or tube 9 which extends downwardly into barrel I through reinforcing and container-supporting tube II. Said tap rod extends downwardly to the bottom of the barrel and is provided with the usual perforations I2 near its lower end through which the beer is discharged from the barrel through said tap rod or tube.
Receptacle I3 is mounted centrally within container I and preferably extends down some distance below the bottom thereof. Said receptacle is provided with a removable cap I4. A space I is formed between coil I and receptacle I3 wherein cracked ice I6 is packed for the purpose of cooling the beer as it is drawn upwardly within container I through coil 1 and tap rod 9. Receptacle I3 is provided for the purpose of receiving carbonic acid gas pressure flask I I having a discharge outlet I8 below its valve I9 at the top and detachably connected with tube 20 extending downwardly through the bottom of said receptacle l3 into control valve 2| having gauge 22 thereon and thence into'hose or flexible tube 23 which is suitably connected to the usual or standard beer tap 24 mounted in the head III of barrel Ill.
The carbonic acid pressure gas enters the tap at 25 and passes downwardly therethrough around the tap tube 9 upon the top of the beer 26 through space 25' between the tap and tap rod. Emergency valve 21 is mounted at the inlet of hose or flexible tube 23. A removable drip cup 28 is' mounted in socket 29 upon tube II to receive any drippings from discharge faucet 8. Container I is supported by reinforcing and supporting tube I I and by two adjustable legs 30 and 3|.
A plug 32 is mounted on the inner end of the faucet to which coil 1 is connected for the purpose of access to the interior of the coil ior cleaning and sterilizing.
When it is desired to draw beer from the barrel I0 having this apparatus mounted thereon,
open the main or top valve I9 of the carbonic acid gas pressure flask I1 and regulate the pressure desired on top of the beer by means of control valve 2|, the desired pressure being indicated by gauge 22. The carbonic acid pressure gas within flask IT is discharged downwardly through tube 20 and control valve 2| into flexible tube 23 andthence through tap 24 upon top of the beer 26 in barrel ID, the beer being forced out from the bottom portion of the barrel through tap rod 9 into cooling coil I and out through dispensing faucet 8. The forcing of the carbonic acid gas downwardly upon and through the beer serves the purpose of giving life to the beer and preventing it from becoming flat. Its pressure also forces the beer out of the barrel, tap tube, coil and discharge faucet. Thus it will be seen that by the use of our invention any unskilled person can mount the apparatus upon a beer barrel and operate it with ease and facility. v
As is well known, the pleasant taste and life of beer depends upon the carbonic acid gas it contains when supplied in barrels and it will retain all of its original gas besides absorbing an additional amount by the carbonic acid pressure gas which we use to force the beer out of the barrel which will improve its quality.
An important advantage of our invention consists in constructing and combining the several parts comprising our portable combination beer cooler into asingle conpact unit which is adapted to be easily and conveniently applied to a barrel or keg of beer and operated with facility by any person without the. requirement of special skill or instructions.
Our invention is capable of some modification without material departure from its scope or spirit as defined in the claims.
What we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser, an insulated container having cooling means therein, a receptacle in said container, a carbonic acid gas flask enclosed within said receptacle, a carbonic acid gas discharge tube connected to said flask, a control valve and gauge to which said tube is connected,
a coil tube within said container, a discharge faucet connected at one end to said coil, a tap rod connected to the other end of said coil and extending into a barrel of beer, a tube leading from said control valve into said barrel of beer whereby carbonic acid pressure gas is discharged therein to charge said beer and force it through said tap rod, coil and discharge faucet for use.
2. In a portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser, an insulated container, a receptacle in said container, acarbonic acid gas flask mounted within said container, a carbonic acid gas discharge tube connected to said flask, a control valve to which said tube is connected, a coil tube within said container, a discharge faucet connected to said coil, a tap rod connected to said coil and extending into a barrel of beer, a tube leading from said control valve into said barrel of beer whereby carbonic acid pressure gas is discharged therein to charge said beer and force it out through said faucet for use.
3. In a portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser, a container, a receptacle in said container, a carbonicacid gas flask in said receptacle, a carbonic acid gas pressure discharge tube connected to said flask, a control valve to which said tube is connected, a barrel, a tube leading from said control valve into said barrel of beer, a coil tube mounted between said container and receptacle with a space therein for receiving a cooling agent, a tap rod connected to said coil and extending into said barrel of beer and a discharge faucet connected to said coil.
4. A portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser comprising a container having a beer coil therein and having means for cooling beer as it passes through said coil, a barrel, discharge means connected to said coil and means for receiving beer therethrough from the barrel, in combination with a receptacle in said container having means for receiving carbonic acid pressure gas and means for discharging said pressure gas into a barrel of beer to charge the beer and force it out through said coil.
5. In a portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser, a container having a receptacle mounted therein, a carbonic acid gas pressure flask mounted in said receptacle, a coil tube able discharge means, a tap rod extending into a barrel of beer and connected to said coil, a tube leading from said flask into said barrelof beer, and means for controlling the flow and pressure of said carbonic acid gas to charge said beer and force it out through said tap rod, coil and discharge means.
6. In a portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser, an insulated container having an insulated removable lid therefor, a recep tacle mounted in said container, a carbonic acid gas pressure flask therein, a valve-controlled tube leading from said gas flask into a barrel of beer, a coil tube mounted within said container in spaced-apart relation from said receptacle where- 'cooler and dispenser, a container adapted to have cooling means therein, a coil mounted in said container and having suitable discharge means and means-for receiving beer therein from a barrel, a receptacle in said container, a carbonic acid gas flask in said receptacle and means for discharging carbonic acid gas therefrom into said barrel of beer whereby the beer is charged and forced outwardly and cooled through said coil.
8. In a portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser, a container adapted to receive and cool beer as it passes therethrough, a tap rod mounted in a barrel of beer through which the beer passes into said container, adjustable legs on which said container is mounted and supported along with said tap rod, and means for discharging carbonic acid gas into the barrel of beer and charging and forcing said beer outward- 1y to be dispensed.
9. In a portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser, an insulated container having an insulated removable lid, a carbonic acid gas pressure flask, a receptacle in said container having a removable cover to receive said flask, a coil tube mounted within said container in spaced-apart relation from said receptacle, and adapted to have ice mounted in said space, a discharge faucet connected to said coil, a tap tube connected to said coil and extending into a barrel of beer whereby said container is partly supported, adjustable legs adapted to complete the support of said container upon said barrel of beer, a tube leading from said gas pressure flask into said barrel, and means for controlling and indicating the flow of gas therethrough.
10. In a portable combination single unit beer cooler and dispenser, a container having insulated walls, a coil tube mounted vertically in said container adjacent the irmer wall thereof, a discharge faucet connected to the upper end of the coil tube, a tap rod or tube connected to the lower end of said coil tube and adapted to extend into a beer barrel, a receptacle mounted in the central portion of said container and adapted to have ice packed between said receptacle and said coils, a lid for said receptacle, a carbonic acid gas pressure flask mounted in said receptacle, a valve in its top, a tube extending from said flask downwardly and outwardly through said receptacle, a control valve connected to said tube, a gauge connected to said control valve, a tap mounted in the head of a beer barrel and a tube connecting said tap to said control valve, whereby carbonic acid gas under pressure is forced downwardly upon and through the beer whereby it is revivifled and reinvigorated and forced through the tap tube, coil and discharge faucet.
11. In a combination cooler and dispenser, a container provided with a vertically disposed coil mounted adjacent its interior wall and having a central vertical space therein, a tap rod connected .to the lower end of said coil and extending into a beer barrel and a discharge faucet connected to its upper end, a receptacle mounted in said container in spaced-apart relation from said coil,
a carbonic acid gas pressure flask detachably v mounted within said receptacle and having connection with the interior of a beer barrel whereby carbonic acid pressure gas may be discharged tap, and adjustable legs cooperating with said tube to support said apparatus in proper position upon a barrel head.
13. In an apparatus as specified in claim 11, a
removable drip cup mounted below the discharge faucet and adapted to catch any drippings from the faucet.
