' 6 Claims. (01. 128-284) This invention relates to diapers.

An object of the invention is the provision of a sanitary garment having a supporting base member of waterproof material and an absorbent pad carried by the waterproof material.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a sanitary garment in which an absorbent padis supported upon a sheet of waterproof material by means of straps and slots, the slots being formed in a well known manner by loops connected. to one of the members or formed integrally therewith.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a sanitary garment in which an absorbent pad is removably supported upon a sheet of waterproof material, one of the members being provided with a transverse slot to receive the free end of the other member, the pad being supported upon the waterproof material by means of co-operating slots and attaching straps.

This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed-description, in view of the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification; nevertheless, it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications as define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Referring more particularly to Fig. 1, l designates a base member which is triangular in shape, although this sheet may be rectangular if desired.

The base member I is composed of a sheet 8 of waterproof material which may be rubberized fabric and has attaching flaps 9 and I 0. The flaps are formed of a soft fabric which will not chafe or irritate the body of the wearer. The inner edges of the flaps are secured to the adjacent edges of the sheet 8. Adjacent the upper edge of the base member and on the flaps 9 are secured a pair of spaced straps I2 to provide loops for a purpose which will be presently explained.

A pad l5 formed of absorbent material is provided with laterally projecting anns l6 at the upper end thereof and these arms are inserted through the loops l2 whereby the pad will be supported upon the base member I.

The pad is preferably formed of folds of cotton lint or cellulose material which may be in the form of tissue paper and is surrounded by a sheet of gauze. The arms I6 may be formed of extensions of the gauze sheet or other suitable soft fabric which will not cause irritation.

When necessary the arms l6 may be removed from the loops l2 to discard the pad IS. A new pad may then be applied to the base member 1.

Referring more particularly to Fig. 2 it will be seen that the pad is substantially rectangular in shape and is provided with loops 2| at the upper end thereof. This pad is identical with the pad l5 and has loops 2| that are in effect The free end 26 of the sheet 23 is inserted through the s1ot"24 for aiding in attaching the pad to the sheet 23. The free end 26 is formed of soft fabric or material.

When desired, the pad may be readily removed from the sheet 23 and discarded and a new pad I applied to said sheet.

Referring more particularly to Fig. 3 it will be seen that a pad 30 which is constructed similarly to the pads l5 and 20 is provided with slots 3| formed by cutting openings in the upper end of the pad adjacent the side edges of the substantially rectangular pad;

A sheet of waterproof material 32 is provided with attaching straps 33 of soft material projecting laterally from the upper end of said sheet. These straps are inserted through the slots 3! and aid in supporting the pad on the sheet.

The lower end of the pad 30 is slotted, as shown at 35, through which is inserted the free end 36 of the sheet 32. This free end is preferably formed of soft and non-chafing material.

when necessary the straps 33 are removed from the slots 3i as is the end 36 of the sheet 32 from the slot and the pad 30 is then discarded. A new pad may be applied to the rub- I berized fabric 32.

Figure 4 shows a slightly modified form of the pad. The pad 40 is formed of the same materials as pads l5 and 23. The upper end of the pad is provided with slots ll and 42 to provide loops 43. A sheet of waterproof material 44, which is rectangular in shape, has attaching straps projecting laterally from the upper end of said sheet. These straps, formed of soft or non-irritating material, are inserted through the loops G3. The pad 40 is provided with a pair of slots 66 and 41, to provide a loop 48 extending transversely across the bottom of the pad. The lower end 49 of the sheet 44 is inserted beneath the loop 48 for aiding in removably attaching the free end of the sheet 44 to the pad. The lower end 49 is preferably formed of soft material.

It will be seen by this construction that the pad may be readily removed from the sheet of waterproof fabric 44 and discarded and a new pad may then be applied. The pads also completely cover the waterproof sheet and any hard materials so that irritation to the body of the wearer is prevented.

I claim:

1. A diaper comprising a sheet of waterproof material, a pad of absorbent material having loops adjacent one end, the sheet having laterally projecting straps passing through the loops for supporting the pad on the sheet and for attaching the diaper to the body of the wearer.

2. A diaper comprising a sheet of waterproof material, a pad of absorbent material having loops adjacent one end, the sheet having laterally projecting straps passing through the loops for supporting the pad on the sheet, said pad having a slotted portion at one end to receive one end of the sheet, said straps forming means for attaching the diaper to the body of the wearer.

3. A diaper comprising a member in the form of a sheet of waterproof material, a second member in the form of a pad of absorbent material supported by the sheet, one of the members being provided with spaced loops, the other member having laterally projecting straps inserted through the loops and extending beyond said loops for supporting one member on the other member, said straps forming means for attaching the diaper to the body of the wearer.

A diaper comprising a member in the form of a sheet of waterproof material, a second member in the form of a pad of absorbent material supported by the sheet, one of the members being provided with spaced loops, the other member having laterally projecting straps inserted through the loops and extending beyond said loops, one of the members having a slot adjacent one end to receive the free end of the other member, the straps and loops cooperating to support one member on the other member, said straps forming means for attaching the diaper to the body of the wearer.

5. A diaper comprising a sheet of waterproof material provided with a pair of spaced loops adjacent one edge, a pad ofabsorbent material having laterally projecting straps received by the loops and extending beyond the same, said straps and slots cooperating to maintain the pad on the waterproof material, the straps acting as attachreceive the free end of the sheet, the straps and 1 slots co-operating to support the pad on the sheet of waterproof material, said straps forming means for attaching the diaper to the body of the wearer.
