DAVID VB. HUBBARD, OF WILLIAMSPOR'I, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SWINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,049, dated April 30, 1878; application led April 28, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, DAVID B. HUBBARD, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Swings, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to form a cheaper, more convenient, and comfortable swing for pleasure and exercise than found heretofore.
My improved swing is illustrated in the accompanyin g drawings as follows: Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a vertical section.
The swinging suspending-bars, marked a a, are hinged to the frame A, carrying the seat B by a yielding joint. At the top of the said frame A is a beam projecting to the rear of the swing, marked b, from the extremity of which is suspended, by hinge, a rod, c, which rod is at the lower extremity joined to a bar or arm extending to the rear of the platform of the seat B, such arm being so united by a loose joint to the governing-rod c as to allow the adjustment of the foot-rest by the person using the swing.
It will be evident that the bars a a support the weight of the person on the swing, while the beam b, being adjustable, regulates the governing-rod c, so that its adjustment at its lower extremity regulates the position of the seat while in motion.
Having described my invention, what I
