Description
N. A. WIBRMAN. Knife-Scourer.
No. 202,770. Patented April 23,1878.

NICHOLAS A. WIERMAN, OF BENDERSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN KNIFE-SCOURERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,770, dated April 23, 1878; application led January 22, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NICHOLAS A. WIER- MAN, of Bendersville, county of Adams, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Knife-Scourcr, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 of the drawing is'a sectional view, and Fig. 2 a plan view. Fig. 3 is a front view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved machine for scouring knives which shall be so constructed that it may be made to last much longer than scourers constructed in the usual Way, and which, when worn out, may be made as good as new at a tritling eX- pense.
The invention will irst be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claims.
A A are two blocks of rubber, one of which may be made cylindrical, and the other rectangular. Bothmay be made cylindrical orboth rectangular, as may be desired or convenient. The ends of the two rubbers A A are placed in metallic iianged plates or slides B B, which are designed to be placed in grooves B' B in the end of the box C', containing the scouring material, so that they can be readilyr removed when desired.
C is the pressure-plate. A similar pressureplate may be placed beneath the lower rubber, if desired.
Pressure may be applied to the pressureplate C by a hand-screw, c, or other suitable means.
A represents the front of' case, which is provided with a horizontal slit, a', through which the knife-blade may be inserted.
By this construction the pressure will be applied to the middle part of the rubbers A A, opposite the parts worn by the knives, so as to hold the said rubbers down to their Work, even when considerably worn.
When one side of the rubbers A A has become too much worn to operate properly, the slides B B, carrying the rubbers with them, may be removed, and the rubbers A A turned in the slides B, to present another side to be worn, and the slides B holding the rubbers in the grooves B', and so on until all their sides have been worn.
When all the sides of the rubbers A A have been worn, the said rubbers can be easily replaced With new ones at a tritling expense.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An improved knife scourer, formed by the combination of the removable rubber blocks A A with the flanged sliding plates B B, 'substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the pressure-plate C with the rubber blocks A A and the hanged sliding plates B B, substantially as herein shown and described.
SAMUEL WAY, GEORGE J. HAMMER.
