In this way the vamp 16 forms an arch on the sole 14 when the sole 14 is unrolled. The vamp 16 has a front edge 46 and a rear edge 48 and the front edge 46 is spaced from the toe 30 of the sole 14. Furthermore, the front edge 46 curves upwardly between the first lateral side 42 and the second lateral side 44 of the perimeter wall 28 of the sole 14 to define a toe opening 50 in the vamp 16. The rear edge 48 curves upwardly between the first lateral side 42 and the second lateral side 44 of the perimeter wall 28 of the sole 14 to define a foot opening 52 in the vamp 16.
  • The counter 18 has a lower edge 54 and an upper edge 56 and the lower edge 54 is coupled to the top edge 40 of each of the first lateral side 42 and the second lateral side 44 of the perimeter wall 28 of the sole 14. The lower edge 54 curves around the heel 32 of the sole 14 such that the counter 18 forms a U-shape. The counter 18 extends into the foot opening 52 defined in the vamp 16 having the counter 18 terminating at a point located between the front edge 46 and the rear edge 48 of the vamp 16. The upper edge 56 has a central portion 58 curving between a pair of outward portions 60 and the central portion 58 is aligned with the heel 32 of the sole 14.
