Description
Oct. 29, 1935. F; s. GODFREY RAYON BUCKET Filed Jan. 25, 1954 e r d 2% w, n m flw .uK mr m 1mm 5 r H P UV b Patented Oct. 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 'General New York Company, a corporation of Application mini-i 2:. 1934. Serial 1v. 101m cam. (c1. 11.7-27.5)
The present invention relates to centrifuge buckets, such as are used, for example, in spinning rayon.
The object of the invention is to provide an 5 improved centrifuge bucket which is relatively easy to assemble and inexpensive to manufacture. For a consideration of the novel'features of the invention attention is directed to the accompanying description and to the appended claims.
In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a centrifuge bucket embodying the present invention.
Referring to the drawing, I indicates a body for the bucket having side walls ,2 and a hub 3. The
side walls form a tub-shaped receptacle, open at the top, within. which the rayon or other viscous material is disposed in the usual manner.- As the rayon or other viscous material disposed within the body I carries acid from the setting.-
bath (not shown) the body I must be constructed of acid resisting material. It may be molded in any convenient manner froma suitable acid resisting material; such as woven cotton impregnated with and held in a highly compressed state by an artificial resin as, for example, a phenolic condensation product. It may further be of any convenient size while the hub 3 may be dimensioned to cooperate with the usual-drivingspindle (not shown).
,30 In order to reinforce the body I against centrifugal stresses, a removable sleeve is ti htly fitted'about the side walls 2 of the body.- This sleeve includes, in the example illustrated, a
metal portion] and a cover-5 of hard rubber or 88 other acid resisting material attached to the internal surface of the metal portion. The sleeve may also be provided, if desired, with a cover or plating of hard rubber or other acid resisting material attached to the external surface ofthe metal portion 4. The metal portion 4 is provided at its bottom edge with a bevelled portion 5 which causes the hard rubber portion 5 to form a tight fit with the side walls 2 of the body when the sleeve is placed over the side walls.
For the purpose of ejecting the acid from the body I circumferentially extending rows of spaced holes, 1 and la, a ended, and a and 90, are provided in the side walls 2, while corresponding holes in the several rows. as], 8 and, are connected by vertical channels, as it and llc,'which are formed in the outer surface of theside walls and which extend froma hole, as 'I, in the lowest rowtothetopofthesidewalls. Bythisconstruction, vertical ways having outlets at so thetopofthesidewalh-orbodyareformedby the vertical channelaas l0 and Illa and the acid resisting-sleeve cover 5. when the centrifuge bucket is rotated, the acid within the body is ejected by centrifugal force through the spaced openings in the side walls and into-the vertical 5 "passageways above mentioned, and is then ejected from the open ends of these passageways at the top of the side walls." It is evident that, if desired, additional rows ofspaced holes may be provided in the side walls 2, additional spaced 10 holes may be provided in each row, and additional vertic'alchannels may be'provided in the side walls as the addition of spaced holes in the several rows may require.
The present .invention therefore provides an 16' improved centrifuge bucket in which the acidresisting body of the bucket is reinforced by a removable sleeve disposed about the side walls of the body. As this sleeve is applied by merely fitting it over the side walls of the body, a-cen- 20 trifuge bucket of the type provided by the present invention is relatively easy to assemble. The use of a sleeve of the type described is made'possible by the novel means provided for ejecting the acid through openings in the side walls of the 25 centrifuge bucket and through vertical passageways in the side walls formed by the sleeve and the channels provided in the side walls.
The present invention is not to be restricted to the particular form or arrangement of parts .30
herein shown and described, since it is evident that they may be changed and modified without departing from the scope of the invention.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by letters Patentof the United States is: 1. A centrifuge bucket comprising abpdy provided with circumferentially extending rows of ,spaced holes in its side walls and channels on the outside surface of said side walls connecting holes in the several rows and extending to the 40 top of the body, a reinforcing sleeve disposed about said side walls, and an acid resisting internal covering on said sleeve forming with said.
channels passageways having outlets at the top 7 of the body.
2. A centrifuge bucket comprising a body provided with circumferentially extending rows of spaced holes in its side walls and channels on the outside surface of said side walls connecting holes in the several rows and extending to the 50 top of the body, a reinforcing removable sleeve disposed about said side walls, and an acid re-' sisting internal covering on said sleeve forming with said channels passageways having outlets at the to? of the body.
