Description
- 1. Technical Field
- The present disclosure relates to a device for mounting a fan.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- Many electronic devices use fans to cool electronic components. However, shock generated by fans is often transmitted to other components mounted in the electronic device. If the shock is too strong, it will affect the components that rely on mechanical heads to read and write date, such as hard drives and tape drives to work properly, and can even cause errors. Therefore there is room for improvement in the art.
- Many aspects of the present embodiments can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the present embodiments. Moreover, in the drawings, all the views are schematic, and like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
-
FIG. 1 is an exploded, isometric view of an exemplary embodiment of a mounting device, together with two fans. -
FIG. 2 is a partially assembled, isometric view of the mounting device ofFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 3 is an assembled, isometric view of the mounting device ofFIG. 1 - The disclosure, including the accompanying drawings, is illustrated by way of example and not by way of limitation. It should be noted that references to “an” or “one” embodiment in this disclosure are not necessarily to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.
- Referring to
FIG. 1 , an exemplary embodiment of a mounting device for mounting afan 10 includes aboard 20, a frame 30 (labeled inFIG. 2 ), fourfasteners 60, and fourshockproof members 40. - The
fan 10 includes two spacedplates 12 at opposite ends, eachplate 12 defines fourcorner holes 120. - The
board 20 can be installed in an electronic device so that airflow from thefan 10 can be directed as desired. In this embodiment, theboard 20 is installed to abottom wall 70 of a chassis of an electronic device. Theboard 20 defines avent 24. A substantially wedge-shaped projection 26 protrudes from theboard 20 above thevent 24. Two substantially L-shaped blocking pieces 28 extend from theboard 20 at opposite sides of thevent 24. Eachblocking piece 28 includes afirst piece 280 perpendicular to thebottom wall 70, and asecond piece 282 perpendicularly extending from a side of thefirst piece 280 toward theother blocking piece 28. Eachsecond piece 282 defines two throughholes 284. - The
frame 30 includes afirst cover 32 and asecond cover 34. Thefirst cover 32 includes ablocking plate 320 and twoside plates 322 perpendicularly extending back from opposite sides of theblocking plate 320. Atab 324 substantially perpendicularly extends out from a bottom side of eachblocking plate 320 and defines twofixing holes 326. Thesecond cover 34 includes ablocking plate 341 and an L-shaped blocking portion 340 extending from a top of theblocking plate 341. Theblocking portion 340 includes afirst portion 344 perpendicularly extending outward from the top of theblocking portion 340 and asecond portion 346 perpendicularly extending up from a side of thefirst portion 344 opposite to theblocking plate 341. A substantially wedge-shaped protrusion 342 protrudes from a side of thesecond portion 346, facing thefirst portion 344. Theblocking plates vent 302 in a center and fourcorner holes 300 corresponding to thecorner holes 120. - Each
shockproof member 40 is substantially round, and defines a throughhole 42 in a center. Theshockproof member 40 is made of elastic material, such as rubber. - Each
fastener 60 includes ahead 62 and anextension portion 64 extending from thehead 62. - Referring to
FIG. 2 , in assembly, the first andsecond covers fan 10. Theblocking plates corresponding plates 12. Theside plates 322 abut against opposite sides of thefan 10. Thefirst portion 344 abuts against a top of thefan 10. Eightscrews 50 extend through thecorresponding corner holes 300 and thecorresponding corner holes 120, to fix thefan 10 in theframe 30. - Referring to
FIG. 3 , theextension portions 64 extend through thecorresponding fixing holes 326 and the throughholes 42 of the correspondingshockproof members 40, to fix theshockproof members 40 to the bottom surface of thecorresponding tabs 324. Theheads 62 abut against tops of thetabs 324. Theframe 30 together with thefan 10 is then inserted between the blockingpieces 28. Theextension portions 64 are then extended through the corresponding throughholes 284, until theshockproof members 40 abut against the correspondingsecond pieces 282. Theprotrusion 342 is blocked under theprojection 26. Thevents 302 and thefan 10 align with thevent 24 - In uninstalling the
fan 10, thesecond portion 346 is deformed away from theboard 20 to disengaging theprotrusion 342 from theprojection 26. Theframe 30 is then moved up to disengage thefasteners 60 from theblocking pieces 28. Therefore, thefan 10 together with theframe 30 can be readily removed - In other embodiment, the
protrusion 342 may extend from a side of the top of the blockingplate 341 away from the blockingportion 340. - It is believed that the present embodiments and their advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and various changes may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the description or sacrificing all of their material advantages, the examples hereinbefore described merely being exemplary embodiments.
