Description
- The present invention relates to a desk assembly and, more particularly, to a desk assembly including a main desk and an auxiliary desk.
- Office desks are a necessity in ordinary offices for placing books, documents, and stationery as well as computer screens, keyboards, mousse, and printers so that the users can read, write, or work easily.
-
FIG. 7 shows a conventional office desk including a main desk A and a side desk B. An end of the side desk B is fixed by a bracket C to a bottom of the main desk A. A longitudinal side of the side desk B is perpendicular to a longitudinal side of the main desk A, such that the office desk is substantially L-shaped. A user can read, write, or work on the main desk A and can use the side desk B when discussing with a coworker or for other purposes. However, the side desk B is fixed relative to the main desk A and, thus, can not move into a space below the main desk A when not in use. Thus, the office desk occupies a considerable space. - Thus, a need exists for a novel desk assembly that occupies a smaller space when not in use.
- A desk assembly according to the present invention includes a main desk having a top board. A rail is mounted to a bottom side of the top board of the main desk and has a longitudinal direction. The rail includes a track extending in the longitudinal direction of the rail. A rotational seat includes a top and a bottom. A slider is fixed to the top of the rotational seat and slideably received in the track. The rotational is seat slideable along the track in the longitudinal direction of the rail. An auxiliary desk includes a top board having a top face mounted to the bottom of the rotational seat. The auxiliary desk is rotatable relative to the main desk. The auxiliary desk and the rotational seat are jointly moveable relative to the main desk in the longitudinal direction of the rail.
- When not in use, the auxiliary desk can be rotated to a position below the main desk to save space. Furthermore, the auxiliary desk can be rotated to a position at a desired angle to the main desk.
- The present invention will become clearer in light of the following detailed description of illustrative embodiments of this invention described in connection with the drawings.

FIG. 4 shows a top view of the desk assembly, with the auxiliary desk in a position perpendicular to the main desk. -
FIG. 5 shows a perspective view of the desk assembly, with the auxiliary desk and the main desk located side by side. -
FIG. 6 shows a side view of the desk assembly, with the auxiliary desk received in the main desk. -
FIG. 6A shows an enlarged view of a circled portion ofFIG. 6 . -
FIG. 6B shows an enlarged view of another circled portion ofFIG. 6 . -
FIG. 7 shows a perspective view of a conventional office desk. - With reference to
FIGS. 1-3 , a desk assembly according to the present invention includes amain desk 1 and anauxiliary desk 2. Arotational seat 3 is mounted between themain desk 1 and theauxiliary desk 2, so that theauxiliary desk 2 can rotate relative to themain desk 1 about a rotating axis defined by therotational seat 3. - Thus, when the
auxiliary desk 2 is not in use, theauxiliary desk 2 can be moved to a position below atop board 11 of themain desk 1 to save space. On the other hand, when using theauxiliary desk 2, theauxiliary desk 2 can be rotated to a position at a desired angle to thetop board 11 of themain desk 1, providing convenient use. - With reference to
FIGS. 2 , 2A, 2B, 3, and 4, a bottom of therotational seat 3 is fixed byscrews 31 to a top face of thetop board 21 of theauxiliary desk 2. In the form shown, twoparallel rails 4 are mounted to a bottom side of thetop board 11 of themain desk 1. Eachrail 4 includes atrack 41 extending in a longitudinal direction of therail 4. Aslider 32 is fixed to each of four corners of a top of therotational seat 3. Each pair ofsliders 32 is slideably received in one of thetracks 41 in the longitudinal direction of therails 4. Thus, thepivotal seat 3 can reciprocatingly slide relative to themain desk 1 in the longitudinal direction of therails 4. However, themain desk 1 can include only onerail 4, and therotational seat 3 can include only oneslider 32. - By such an arrangement, the
auxiliary desk 2 can move in a wider range relative to themain desk 1, allowing more spatial combinations of theauxiliary desk 2 and themain desk 1. Namely, theauxiliary desk 2 is rotatable relative to themain desk 1, and theauxiliary desk 2 and therotational seat 3 are jointly moveable relative to themain desk 1 in the longitudinal direction of therails 4. In an example shown inFIG. 1 , theauxiliary desk 2 is moved to a left side of and perpendicular to themain desk 1. In another example shown inFIG. 4 , theauxiliary desk 2 is moved to a right side of and perpendicular to themain desk 1. In a further example shown inFIG. 5 , theauxiliary desk 2 is moved to the right side of themain desk 1, and a longitudinal side of thetop board 21 of theauxiliary desk 2 is parallel to a longitudinal side of themain desk 1. Themain desk 1 and theauxiliary desk 2 can have relative positions other than those shown. - With reference to
FIGS. 2 , 6, and 6A, theauxiliary desk 2 includes only twolegs 22. Eachleg 22 has an upper end mounted by ahinge 23 to thetop board 21 of theauxiliary desk 2, allowing thelegs 22 to be folded by pivoting thelegs 22 towards the bottom face of theauxiliary desk 2. Eachhinge 23 can include an elastic element (not shown) to bias eachleg 22 to an extended, upright position or a folded, horizontal position. Thehinges 23 can be of a conventional type. - In the form shown, the
main desk 1 includes four legs each having an upper end mounted to the bottom side of thetop board 11. When not in use, theauxiliary desk 2 can be moved into a space below thetop board 11 of themain desk 1. Furthermore, thelegs 22 of theauxiliary desk 2 can be pivoted to the folded position adjacent to the bottom face of thetop board 21 of theauxiliary desk 2. Thus, the user can move his or her legs without interference from thelegs 22 of theauxiliary desk 2. Furthermore, moving thelegs 22 to the folded position adjacent to the bottom face of thetop board 21 of theauxiliary desk 2 provides aesthetically pleasing effect. Further, thelegs 22 can be connected by arod 221. An L-shapedretaining rod 24 is rotatably mounted to the bottom face of thetop board 21 of theauxiliary desk 2. The L-shapedretaining rod 24 can be rotated to a position supporting therod 221 when thelegs 22 are in the folded position (FIG. 6B ). Thus, thelegs 22 can be reliably retained in the folded position adjacent to the bottom face of thetop board 21 of theauxiliary desk 2. - With reference to
FIGS. 2 and 6 , acover plate 12 mounted by ahinge 13 to each of four edges of thetop board 11 of themain desk 1. Eachcover plate 12 can be pivoted inward to a horizontal position adjacent to the bottom side of thetop board 11 of themain desk 1 or pivoted outward to an upright position. Eachhinge 13 can include an elastic element (not shown) to bias eachleg 13 to the upright position or the horizontal position. The hinges 13 can be of a conventional type. However, themain desk 1 can include only onecover plate 12 mounted to one of the four edges. - With reference to
FIG. 1 , when theauxiliary desk 2 is completely received in the space below thetop board 11 of themain desk 1, thecover plates 12 are moved to the upright position for shielding purposes, such that the user is less likely to touch theauxiliary desk 2 and thelegs 22 while providing aesthetically pleasing effect. When it is desired to use or move theauxiliary desk 2, thecover plates 12 are moved to the horizontal positions adjacent to the bottom side of thetop board 11 of themain desk 1 to avoid interference to themain desk 1. - With reference to
FIG. 1 , aframe 11 is placed on a top side of thetop board 11 and define twocompartments 141 for receiving 3C electronic products, such as an iphone, ipad, or notebook (not shown), preventing falling of these objects. - Although specific embodiments have been illustrated and described, numerous modifications and variations are still possible without departing from the essence of the invention. The scope of the invention is limited by the accompanying claims.
