IM PROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,019, (lated March 5, 1878; application filed February 16, 1878.

To all 'whom it may concem:

Be it known that I, IRVING A. KILMER, of Howeis Cave, in the county of Schoharie and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bale-Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my bale-tie 5 and Figs. 2 and 3, modification perspective views of my bale-tie.

My invention relates to bale-ties formed by twisting and bending the ends of the wires used for tying the bales; and the nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the tie, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.

A represents a Wire, such as is used for tying a bale of cotton or other material. One end of the Wire A is bent and twisted substantially as shown, so as to form a ring or eye, B.

The other end of the wire is bent in the following mauner: An eye, C, is first formed by bending the Wire a suitable distance from the end. The end of the Wire from the eye Cis then bent to lthe left, and then crossed over to the right back again, and on the end is formed a catch, D, which is pressed in the eye O, the bent portion outside of said eye forming the figure 8, and is marked F.

Instead of crossing the wires in this manner, they may be run side by side without crossing, the catch D in either case being passed through the eye O.

When the Wire is passed around the bale the ring Bis passed over the part F, eye G, and catch D, and said ring is caught under the eye, as shown, the part F extending across and beyond the ring B.

The end of the catch D may extend back- Ward, if desired, for a suitable distance, and then the ring B catches under the end thereof.

I am fully aware that it is not new to form a bale-tie with or on the same wire which surrounds the bale, and I do, therefore, not claim such, broadly, as my invention.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The wire A, bent and twisted at one end to form the eye B, and the other end bent to form the eye O, double part F, and catch D, substantially as herein set forth.
