One object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved construction of package adapted to be closed and sealed inca novel manner to effectively seal the contents of the package. Y A further object of the invention is to provide a novelv and improved lined package in which y provision is madefor closing and sealing the 10 mouth of the liner in a novel and improved manner.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel method of making a closed and sealed package `by which the mouth of the package may be closed and sealed in a novel, eflicient andv practical manner.

With theseobjects in view, and such others as may hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the package and in the method of making the package hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claims at the endA of this specification. I

strength of the'paraiiin seal thus produced, however, is not as great as is desirable, and, accord- 55 ingly, one of the aims of the present invention is to provide a package having a similarly parafned paper liner in which the mouth of the liner is closed and'sealed in a novel manner such as to provide a superior and much stronger seal than has heretofore been possible to produce with the hot sealing methods heretofore used.

The present invention, therefore, contemplates in its broader aspects a moisture-proof package or bag which may take the form of a paper bag or a liner for a carton, 'and in which the moisture-v proof coating does not extend to the mouth of the bag but terminates a suiiicient, distance therefrom to provide an uncoated portion of the paper capable of being utilized to provide a paper to paper l contact adapted to be sealed by glue or other adhesive and thereby provide a moisture-proof package or bag having its mouth sealed by a superior and much stronger seal. It is preferred to. close the mouth of the package or bag by folding outwardly the opposite end portions of the mouth of the package or bag to enable a continuous seal from one side of the bag to the other to be produced, and thereafter the mouth of the' bag may be folded in any desired manner to form the completed package. In its preferred form the invention is embodied in a paraiiin lined package, and provision is made in accordance with the present method for removing a band of paraffin around the mouth of the liner, preferably from either the inside or from both the inside and outside of the mouth thereof, -to thereby provide an exposed uncoated sealing portion, enabling the same to be broughtinto contact and glued or otherwise adhesively affixed together. Thereafter the sealed mouth portion of the liner may be folded down within the outer package and the iiaps of the latter may be closed and sealed in any usual or preferred manner.
