Description

L. T. L. WING. Fence-Barbs.
N0. 200,783. Patented Feb. 26, I878.
MMesses: lwvenhv 1 v @Thmaa QMQVWHA UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIcE.
LEWIS T. LARSON WING, OF CAMBRIDGE, ASSIGNOR OF ONEHALF HIS RIGHT TO H. O. HENDRIKSON, OF SHELDAHL, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENCE-BARBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,783, dated February 26, 1878; application filed July 9,1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEw1s T. LARSON WING, of Cambridge, in the county of Story and State of Iowa, have invented an Improved Fence- Barb, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in forming and rigidly fixing on a fence-wire, from two separate and pointed pieces of wire of unequal length, a four-pointed barb, as hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 of my drawing is a perspective view, illustrating the manner in which I bend a pointed piece of wire, and prepare it to engage and hold a straight-pointed piece to a fence-wire. a is the doubled and hook-form portion. 1) b are the pointed ends.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view, illustrating my manner of connecting two pointed pieces of n, in the fence-wire, to remain suspended, and ready to be bent by means of pinchers or any suitable tool, to clamp the doubled hook-form piece.
At the same time that the short piece a is bent the piece a b b is pressed together to clasp the fence-wire d, and clamp the doubled and staple-form short piece 0 rigidly in the dent n of the fence-wire d. A rigidly-fixed and durable barb having four radial points is thus easily produced.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a complete barb constructed and fixed in the manner shown and described, and clearly illustrates my complete invention.
I claim as my invention 1. As an improved article of manufacture, the doubled hook-form and pointed barb-piece a b 11, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The doubled hook-form and pointed piece a b b and the pointed piece 0, in combination with a fence-wire, d, to form a four-pointed fence-barb.
