3 Claims.
This invention relates to a greeting card such as now used by many persons to convey [greetings at certain seasons such as Christmas, Easter, the New Year and on other occasions. Many of 5 Such cards are made of a rather stili cardboard of rectangular shape and of a size to be placed in an envelope and thus mailed. Such cards While largely used are considered by some people to be rather formal. A greeting card embodying both vthe feature .of a card and the feature of a regular letteris desired. Some of the more expensive cards are also folded so as to form several layers and this is a desirable feature.
It is an object of this invention to provide a greeting card having all of the features of a card bearing a design or picture, a suitable greeting, a folded structure and at the same time being capable of being folded and mailed to give aerather informal andgenial tone to the greeting.
It is a further object of the invention to provide such a card comprising a sheet of rather heavy and preferably artistic paper` of fine texture, said sheet, being rectangular in form and preferably having a deckle edge at one end thereof.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a greeting card comprising a folded paper structure on which is mounted a card bearing a picture and which also contains an appropriate greeting.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully set forth in thefollowing description made in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which like reference characters refer to `similar parts throughout the several views and in Which:-
Fig. l is a plan View of the blank used;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view on a larger scale showing the device in open position;
Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the device in open position;
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a view showing the device in further folded position ready for sealing;
Fig. 6 is a vertical section taken on line 6--6 of Fig. 5; and
Fig. 7 is a plan view of the device ready for mailing.
Referring to the drawing, a greeting card is illustrated of which one partis made from a blank I0 shown in Fig. l. This blank I0 comprises a sheet of rather heavy paper which will have a rich texture and be of pleasing appearance. A good grade of light coverV paper is preferably (ol. 22e-92.7)
used. The blank IIJ is of general rectangular shape having a flap Illa formed along one side and extending substantially midway of its length. One edge Illb of the `blank is preferably in the form of a deckle edge.
y In making the device the end I 0b isfolded along a line indicated as Illc in Fig. l and which extends across the sheet IG perpendicularly to the sides thereof. The sheet I0 is folded so that the edge Illb is positioned some distance from the opposite end or edge Illd of the blank or the edge adjacent the edge Ib when the sheet is folded. After the sheet has been thus folded a card II bearing a suitable picture for the season ismounted on the folded sheet as shown in Figsl 2 and 3. lThe sheet is again folded along a line Ille midway between the inner edge of the nap Illa and the lineIIlc and the card II is positioned centrally between the lines IIlc and Ille. bear any picture suitable for the season for which the greeting is used, the picture inthe embodiment of the invention illustrated showing a card suitable for the Christmas` season and having thereon among other things a representation of the Star of the East. While the card I I may be mounted in various ways, in practice it has usually been secured along its upper edge. A legend I2 preferably is printed on the sheet below the picture II, the same being either the title of the picture or expressing a sentiment appropriate thereto. On the portion of the sheet between line Ille and the inner edge of flap Illa a greeting or message I3 is printed. This greeting will be in the form of a personal message and a line or other provision I4 will be provided for the signature of the sender.
When the greeting has thus been made and when the sender has signed the same it will be folded fiat along the line Ille and the flap I 0a can then be folded over the outer side If of the folded sheet and the same sealed. The flap Illa will preferably be provided with a suitable adhesive as are ordinary envelope fiaps. With the device thus folded and sealed the same can be provided with the proper address I6, the usual stamp I -I placed thereon and the device thus mailed.
From the above description it is seen that applicant has provided a suitable greeting assembly which simulates a letter and bears a comparatively lengthy message or greeting which is signed by the sender and at the same time also comprises a picture or similar greeting card. The as- It will be understood that the card II can ,4
sembly thus combines the features of a letter as well as a regular seasonal greeting or card and forms a much more personal greeting than an ordinary plain Christmas or other seasonal card. The folded form of the device simulates a letter and at the same time gives a` rich and artistic effect to the greeting. As stated the sheet l0 will be made of artistic and rich looking paper so that the whole effect will be very pleasing. At the same time the device is simple and can Very easily and conveniently be prepared for mailing. The device has been amply demonstrated in actual practice, found to be very successful and efficient and is being commercially made.
It will, of course7 be understood that vario-us changes ina-y be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the parts, without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth in the parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.l
What is claimed isz- 1. A greeting card assembly comprising a sheet of fairly heavy paper of substantially rectangular form in plan folded upon itself some distance from a transverse median line so that the folded edge is spaced from the opposite edge after folding, said sheet then being folded again along a median line substantially at right angles to said linel said sheet having a iiap extending along one side, a seasonal greeting card bearing a picture xedly mounted upon and secured to said sheet at one side of said last mentioned line, a seasonal greeting at the other side of said last mentioned line, said picture and greeting being appropriate to a certain season, said ap being adapted to be folded over the edge of the folded sheet to seal the same whereby an address can be placed upon the outer side of said folded sheet and the device mailed.
2. A greeting card assembly comprising a sheet of fairly stiff paper of substantially rectangular form in plan, said sheet being folded upon itself adjacent its smaller transverse median line whereby one portion overlies the other with its edge spaced a short distance from the adjacent edge of the other portion, said folded sheet again being folded along its longer median line at right angles to said first mentioned line, said sheet having a flap extending along only one longitudinal edge for substantially one-half the length thereof, a picture appropriate to a certain season iixedly secured at one end upon the folded over portion of said sheet at one side of said last mentioned line, said picture being disposed centrally transversely of the portion at one side of said last mentioned line, a greeting disposed on said folded over sheet at the opposite side of said last mentioned line appropriate to said season, an indication spaced below said greeting for the signature of the sende-r whereby the device can be signed, folded into flat condition, said flap then folded over the outer side of the device toseal the same and the device addressed and mailed. f
, 3,'A seasonal greeting card assembly comprising a sheet of fairly heavy paper of substantially rectangular form in plan having one edge in the form ofl a deelde edge, said sheet being folded upon itself along the line spaced a short distance from a median transverse line, whereby said deckle edge overlies said sheet a short distance from the opposite end of said sheet, said folded sheet again being folded along a median line at right angles to said line, said sheet having a flap extending along one longitudinal edge for substantially one-half the length thereof, a picture appropriate to a. certain season flxedly mounted on the folded over portion of said sheet centrally transversely thereof, a legend below said picture, a greeting disposed on said folded sheet at the opposite side of said last mentioned line appropriate to said season, whereby the assembly can be folded into flat condition, said flap then folded over the outer side of the assembly to seal the'same, the assembly addressed and mailed.
