Description
June 1935' v A. BLESMEISTER 2,003,376
' RING, BROOCH PIN, BRACELET, AND THE LIKE Filed June 9, 1955 ANTHON B. LES/7157.5 TER INVENTOR BYY ATTORNEY Patented June 4, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Anthony B. Lesmeistcr, Portland, Oreg.
Application June 9, 1933, Serial No. 675,057
lclaim.
This invention relates to improvements in jewelry and more especially to finger rings, brooch pins, bracelets, ear rings and the like, and has for its principal object to provide articles of this character wherein miniature photographs may be applied to the articles and rendered waterproof and durable over long periods of time.
Another object of the invention is the provision of articles of this character which are made entirely of celluloid and in some instances, laminated celluloid in the fabrication of the finished articles.
These and other objects will appear as my invention is more fully hereinafter described in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and finally pointed out in the appended claim..
In the drawing Figure 1 is an edgewise view of my new and improved type of finger ring, showing a miniature photograph applied thereto by means of my new and improved method.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional side elevation of Figure 2 taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing:
Reference numeral 1 indicates generally a flnger ring of any preferred material or design having a usual ring portion 2 and an enlarged portion 3.
The enlarged portion is flattened as at 4 to receive a panel 5 which is cemented or otherwise fastened to the ring. The panel 5 is likewise flattened as at 6 to receive a convex portion 1 which is also cemented or otherwise fastened to the panel 5. I provide a plurality of laminations or panels to add to the attractiveness of the ring by providing panels of contrasting colors. In other words, the ring maybe of one color and the panel 5 of a contrasting color, and the panel I of a color in contrast to the other two.
In one form of the invention I form the rings,
and panels of celluloid but it is to be understood, of course, that any material may be used in the formation of the rings and panels, such, for instance, as ivory, bone, or the like. Furthermore, it is to be understood that my invention may be applied to metallic rings and metallic jewelry of all kinds by merely providing a flat surface to which the panels, as aforesaid may be applied.
To theouter convex surface of the panel I, I apply a miniature photograph 8 by the use of 10 transparent cement, glue, or the like to securely hold the photograph in position on the convex panel. When the glue has sufficiently dried, I apply a coating of transparent glue or cellophane or any other suitable water-proof cement as indicated at 9. Then the entire assembly is polished so that all of the adjacent edges -of the panels and of the cellophane or glue are smoothed and polished into an attractive ornament.
Although I have shown and described a ring as one form of the invention, it is obvious that the invention may be readily applied to not only rings but brooch pins, bracelets, ear rings, and the like, and I therefore do not wish to be limited 'to applying the invention to merely one type'of Jewelry.
While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:-
An ornamental finger ring comprising a ring having an enlarged and flattened portion on its periphery, a plurality of panels of contrasting colors mounted upon said flattened portion and arranged one above the other, a photograph mounted upon the outermost one of said panels, and a transparent preservative covering applied to said photograph and to said outermost panel.
ANTHONY B. IESMEISTER.
