J. s. FISHER ADVERTIS ING CALENDAR Filed Dec. 27, 1934 Fifa 9.
Fica! INVENTOR.
ATTORNEYS.
Patented May 28, 1935 y UNITED STATES 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in l good-will advertising-articles, and more particularly to a combined advertising greeting card.
It has been the practice in the printingl of calendars for advertising purposes to display the advertisers message upon'the'front of the calendar, which is distasteful'to certain class of recipients, with the result that the calendar is either thrown away by the recipient, or placed in some obscure place which makes it'unavailable for instant use when desired. It is therefore the main purpose Vof this invention to provide an advertising calendar having the twelve months displayed thereon and on which a direct message. in the form of a greeting or advertisement may be carried to a prospective customer of an advertiser by printing the saine upon a cover sheet which is attached to the backrof the calendar and folded over the front thereof. The folded sheet is detachable from a stub attached to the back of the calendar by tearing the same upon a weakened line, there being an advertisement printed on the remaining stub to which the recipient of the calendar may refer at all times. By this arrangement, the front face of the calendar may be left free of advertising matter and the same set up upon a desk or Vhung upon the wall as a useful and decorative article.
y Another feature of the invention is to provide an advertising article in which the advertising matter is printed on a cover sheet which is attached to the rear of a calendar, a portion of the sheet carrying the advertisement remaining attached to the back of the calendar after the cover portion thereof is torn away. This enables the use of a standard design calendar which may be kept in stock by the printer or manufacturer and the cover sheets printed up to suit the advertising copy of different advertisers as orders for the calendars are placed.
A further object resides in a combined advertising calendar and greeting card which is simple of construction, inexpensive of manufacture, Vand which is free of direct display of advertising when in use upon the recipients desk or hung upon the wall so as not to detract from the decorative furnishings ofa room.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the following specication is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure l is a perspective View of my combined calendar and greeting card, showing one corner of the cover sheet turned back.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view.

Referring to the drawing by. reference characters, the numeral I0 designates a flat-'rectangular shaped body which may fbe constructed of cardboard or other similar stiff material, the front face ofwhich contains a calendar II of the twelve months of.' the year. Adhesively secured to therear side of the body IU centrally thereof is an easel which'includes 1a pair of foldable props I3-I3 normally disposed at against the back ofthe body ias shown inFigure 2 of the drawing, but which may be swung to a position at right angle to the body as shown in Figure 3, and held in such position by a locking brace flap I4. The ap I4 also lies flat against the rear of the body I0 when in folded position, but extends outwardly therefrom when in operative position. Associated with the calendar I 0 is a detachable greeting card which includes a flexible sheet ofV paper I5 of a Width equal to the width of the body I0 but being of a height greater than the body I0 for a purpose to be hereinafter appreciated. The sheet of paper I5 is provided with a weakened tear-line I 6 adjacent its top edge and parallel to the said top edge. The weakened line I6 divides the sheet into an attaching stub section I1 and a cover section I8. The stub section I'I is adhesively secured to the back of the body I0 adjacent the top edge of the said body in a manner so that the weakened tear-line I6 is disposed inwardly Aor below the top edge of the body I0. The cover section I8 is folded over the top of the body I0 to lie flat over the front face of the said body to protect the calendar II until placed in use. Y
Printed on the cover section I8 may be a message of greeting I9 or other desired printed matter, while printed on the stub section II may be an advertisement 2U of the sender of the calen- Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the ardar. It will be appreciated that the printed matter is applied to the sheet I5 prior to its attachment to the body I0 and when printing, the printed matter I9 is in reversed relation with respect to the printed matter 20 so as to be read from opposite sides of the article without turning the same upside down.
In practice, the article may be used in goodwill advertising, the name'of the advertiser appearing on the stub I'I and upon the cover section of the body I0, the stub I1 is invisible from theV front, fbut the owner yis aware of the name and address appearing on the stub section for reference thereto when needed. By bending out the ilaps I3 and I4 of the 'easel I2 to the position shown in Figure 3, the article may be setin an upright position upon the desk and provide-an` attractive article free of the display of an adver.
tisement. In the event that it should be desired to hang the calendar upon-the lwalliiat tab 2| extends upwardly from the easel I2 in which an opening 22 is provided for receiving a nail, hcok or other like support. i 3- i A While I have shown and described what I considerr to be the preferred embodiment of .my invention, I wish itmto be understocdgthat suchV changes as comeV within" the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to if jdesired.
Having thus described the invention, Lwhat I claim as new and desireto secureby Letters Patentof the United States, isz-'-r i l. A combined calendar' andr greeting card comprising a .flat body having the' calendar months of the year on the front side thereof, a greeting card including a flexible sheet, a weakened line extending across vsaid sheet adjacent the top edge thereof and'parallel thereto, said weakened line dividing the sheet into a cover section and a stub section,`said stub section being adhesively secured to the back of said body adjacent the top thereof while said cover section is folded over the top edge and front of said body to lie flat thereagainst.
2. A combined advertising calendar and greeting card comprising a at rectangular shaped body having a calendar on the front face side thereof, a flexible rectangular sheet, a weakened line extending across said sheet adjacent the top edge thereof and parallel thereto, said weakened line dividing the sheet into a relatively narrow attaching stub section and a cover section, said stub section being adhesively secured to the rear 'of said body adjacent the top thereof so that the Vflat thereagainst.
